01 Jan Fairbrother to join Eng sqad in Aus.
02 Jan Akram joins Pak squad after his sinus operation. He will
play in the best-of-three Madela Cup final and in the
one-off Test against South Africa.
03 Jan Donald will return to the South African squad after a 3
month lay-off for a cyst on his right big toe. He will
appear in the Mandela Cup final, and the one-off Test
v Pak, if given the all-clear by his surgeon on Thu.
05 Jan Bevan has dropped down to the Aus "A" team for the
remaining WSC matches. McIntyre, George, and Blewett
(all SoA) also included in Aus "A" team.
S Waugh returns to the Aus squad.
06 Jan Wasim Akram hinted that he would not continue playing
county cricket after his contract with Lancs runs out
in 1996. Instead he might play in the Bangladesh League.
07 Jan Rutherford fined for vocal dissent, ramifications;
NZ Domestic news.
09 Jan SBS bids for Aus in WI TV rights; Gloucestershire have
asked J.Srinath to be their overseas player for 1995.
He will be replacing Courtney Walsh who will playing for
the West Indies against England (Thanks Jacob).
10 Jan Gough sufferd a stress-fracture in his left foot with
the first ball he bowled in today's WSC fixture. He
will miss the rest of the Ashes tour. Chris Lewis (who
is currently playing club cricket in Aus) has been named
as his replacement (Thanks Mike Smith). Gough has returned
to England and will not take any further part in the tour.
Fairbrother suffered a shoulder injury (in the same match)
when he collided with Rhodes while trying to take a catch.
He will be unavailable for a week or two.
Srinath has accepted Gloucs offer to be their overseas
player for 1995. Other Indians who will be appearing
in the Eng 1995 season, Azharuddin (Derbys), Prabhakar
(Durham), Kumble (Northants) (Thanks Jacob).
12 Jan Martin Crowe is having another operation on his knee and
will be unavailable till late Feb 95. He will miss the
matches vs WI (Thanks Bevan).
Manager of the NZ team that toured South Africa, Mike
Sandlant has relinquished his job. A replacement will
be named soon for the home series against WI.

Robin Smith has signed a new 5 year contract with Hants.
14 Jan Neil Mallender, the seam bowler, has rejoined Northants
on a two-year contract after his decision to leave
Somerset. The 33-year-old Yorkshireman, who underwent
a groin operation at the end of last season, left
Northants in 1986 to play for Somerset the following

17 Jan New Zealand squad for the first one-dayer against WI

18 Jan Eng studies Aus cricket academy.
Shaun Udal is returning to England after his side-strain
did not respond sufficiently rapidly to treatment. He
will require 4-6 weeks to recover and will play no
further part in the tour. He is the fourth England
cricketer to quit the tour due to injury.
John Reid has been appointed as coach of NZ team. The
appointment is temporary until April 1, 1995.
South African team for the one-off test against Pakistan
has been announced.
19 Jan 3 NZ players - Matthew Hart, Steven Fleming & Dion Nash -
have been dropped from the team after they admitted to
smoking marijuana.
22 Jan Alec Stewart is out of the Ashes tour when he was hit
right on the broken finger again in a match against
Victoria.
West Indies captain Courtney Walsh said that all-rounder
Carl Hooper would not be joining the tour. Hooper fell
ill while touring India, and was advised not to fly out
after having been hospitalised in England. (Thanks ET)
Waqar Younis has been diagnosed as suffering from a
stress fracture of the back and will miss Pakistan's
tour of Zimbabwe. The fast-bowler is expected to be fit

23 Jan India-A team is unchanged for the 2nd test against Eng-A.
6 of the 10 former Indian cricketers who appeared in the
qualifying examination for umpires have passed. There names
are not known yet. Among those who appeared in the exam are
Bedi, Yashpal Sharma, Maninder Singh, Jayantilal and

24 Jan Basin Reserve pitch (where the 2nd ODI between NZ and WI
was scheduled) was vandalised on 19 Jan 95. See News item.
25 Jan Stewart and Fairbrother are out of the Ashes tour. Mark
Ramprakash (currently in India as part of the A-Tour) has
been recalled for the 5th test.
Pak to tour Aus in Nov/Dec 1995.
26 Jan Australia "A" concept may be revivied.
27 Jan Sri Lanka have three newcomers in their party of 16 for
the tour of New Zealand and a limited-overs tournament
in Sharjah. They are wicketkeeper Chamara Dunusinghe,
medium-fast bowler Janaka Gamage and Jayantha Silva, a
left-arm spinner. The touring team leave on Feb 20 for
New Zealand, where their itinerary includes two Tests
and three one-day internationals (Thanks Electronic

Former England all-rounder Bob Woolmer has had his
contract as South Africa's coach extended by a year,
to the end of March 1997 (Thanks Electronic Telegraph).
Former Australian Cricket Board (ACB) chairman
Fred Bennett died in Sydney on Thursday unexpectedly,
aged 79 (Thanks INtv).
Sri Lankan vice-captain Aravinda de Silva has been
approached by English county Kent to play for them
in 1995 County season (as a replacement for Hooper).

28 Jan Indian squad of 14 for the NZ centenary one-day tournament
has been announced.
29 Jan NZ squad of 12 for the first test against WI has been
announced.
Pakistan will be touring NZ December 1995 to play one

31 Jan Pakistan to tour New Zealand in Dec 1995 to play 1 test
and 4 ODIs. Zimbabwe to tour New Zealand in Jan/Feb 1996
to play 2 tests and 3 ODIs. West Indies declined an offer
from NZ to tour during 1995/96.
