At stumps day 1, Pakistan are 231/4 in their first innings with
Ijaz Ahmed not out on 101. Pakistan have three changes from
their squad in the second Test: Salim Malik, Saqlain Mohammed,
and Rashid Latif are in for Saleem Elahi, Mushtaq Mohammed, and
Moin Khan.
The second Test between England and South Africa is underway.
England have brought in Devon Malcolm for Illingworth whereas
Pringle and Eksteen replace Schultz and Matthews for South Africa.
Ajit Wadekar was reprimanded by match referee Peter Burge for

Former Indian Test Cricketer Abid Ali passes away in San Francisco after a prolonged heart illness.
India defeated New Zealand in the sixth and final One-day Int`l
by six wickets to win the series 3-2. The scores: NZ 126 IND
128/4. Martin Crowe and Chris Cairns were not fit to play and
were replaced by Simon Doull and Adam Parore. Manoj Prabhakar
was named the man of the series.
Sri Lanka defeated Tasmania in a one-day contest, on runrate
after rain interrupted play. The scores: TAS 230/5 SL 220/5
(45.2ov).

from next year`s world cup venues in light of the recent deaths

abusive language during the 5th One-Day International between India and New Zealand. Twose got involved in an argument with Indian captain Azharuddin and other Indian fielders when Manjrekar
claimed that he had not touched the boundary ropes while taking a
catch to dismiss Chris Cairns - see article in

Guyana & Trinidad-Tobago are joint champions of the One-day
Shell/ Sandals Trophy.
The match between England-A and Patron`s XI is drawn.

New Zealand beat India by 99 runs in the 5th One-Day International played at Nagpur. The scores: NZ 348/8 (50ov - Astle 114) IND
249 (39.3ov).
Victoria beat Pakistan by eight wickets in the tour match. On
day 3, Pakistan resuming from their overnight 49/2 in the second
innings, were all out for 279 (Inzamam-ul-Haq 132), leaving Victoria 72 runs for victory. The scores: PAK 154 & 279 VIC 362 &
72/2.
After losses to Queensland in both a One-day game and a four-day

Sri Lanka lose the tour match against Queensland after being all
out for 109 in their second innings (Kasprowicz 5-31 for a match
haul of 12 wickets). The scores: QLD 305 & 255 SL 175 & 109.
Victoria were all out for 362 (Dean Jones 127 Saqlain Mushtaq 5-
107) in their first innings in reply to Pakistan`s 154 on day 2
of the tour match. At close, Pakistan are 49/2 in their second
innings.
The tour match between England and Orange Free State is drawn.
In their second innings, England declared at 239/4. At close,
OFS were 110/3. The final scores: ENG 316/4d & 239/4d OFS 245/9d
& 110/3.

Sri Lankan Test umpire Cooray is set to leave for New Zealand
later this month to officiate in the first Test between New Zealand and Pakistan (Dec 8-12) - see new article and related article dated 15 Nov 1995.

India won the 4th One-day International against New Zealand
despite some Chris Cairns heroics. New Zealand scored 235/6 in
their 50 overs (Chris Cairns 103). India reached the target in
the 46th over. India lead the series 2-1, and the scene now
shifts to Nagpur for the 5th ODI on 26th Nov.
At the end of Day 3, Sri Lanka are facing defeat in the tour
match against Queensland. Sri Lanka are 59/3 in their second innings in reply to Queensland`s 2nd innings score of 255 (Muralitharan 5-87 Silva 5-96). The scores: QLD 305 & 255 SL 175 &
59/3.
At the end of Day 2, England are 121/1 in their second innings
after Orange Free State declared their first innings at 245/9.
England scored 316/4d in their first innings.
At the end of Day 1, Victoria are 134/3 in reply to Pakistan`s
154.
Aamir Sohail will not be able to play the tour match against Victoria after being hit in the nets by a Waqar Younis bouncer.
Sohail is however expected to be fit for the third Test against
Australia on Nov. 30th.

the fruits of match practice in the tour match against Orange

At the end of Day 2, Queensland are 13/0 against Sri Lanka who
were bundled out for 175 (Kasprowicz 7-64). Earlier, Queensland
were all out in their first innings for 305.
At the end of Day 1, Orange Free State (OFS) are 36-0 in their
first innings in reply to England 316/4 declare (Alec Stewart
110, Graeme Thorpe 131*).

At the end of Day 1, Queensland are 277/7 in the tour match
against Sri Lanka.
The emergent England Cricket Board Ltd and its associated plans
for cricket is expected to be good for the game`s grassroots -

England have been given a helping hand in their quest for maximum
practice ahead of next week`s second Test against South Africa,
for the scheduled four-day game against Orange Free State has
been split into two separate contests. That means all 16 members
of the England party can be assured of at least one outing on
Bloemfontein`s Springbok Park. A three-day game will start on
Thursday with a 50-overs-per-side match scheduled for Sunday.
Reports suggest that a growing number of critics are attempting
to oust Arif Abbasi, the chief executive of the Pakistan Cricket
Board, in light of the recent performance of the Pakistan team in
Australia and the Pakistan A team against England A in Pakistan.
Organisers of the World Cup comment that it would be a "disaster"
if Abbasi were to be removed.
Pakistan will meet Sri Lanka in the `curtain raiser of the Triangular International Cricket series to be played in Singapore on
April 1 next year; Also Sri Lanka confirm that they will be
hosting Zimbabwe in early 1998 - see news brief article.
Chandika Hathurusinghe will replace Asanka Gurusinha for the tour
match against Queensland beginning today - see tour brief article

Tim Munton of Warwickshire, meanwhile, has been called into the
England A party for the three-day game in Lahore starting on Saturday. Munton is cover for Gloucestershire`s Mike Smith, who
will try out his injured side in the same game. Bowler Ed Giddins and all-rounder Craig White are also not a 100 per cent fit.
Warwickshire are prepared to wait until the New Year to sign fast
bowler Shaun Pollock. The South African has said he will give
Warwicks his decision in January.

The first Test between England and South Africa ended in a draw
as the fifth day was also washed out.
Rain also continued to plague the New Zealand tour of India as
the 3rd one-day International at Goa was abandoned due to a wet
field. The series is currently tied at 1-1, with the next oneday at Pune on Nov. 24. - see article.
The first women`s Test between India and England ended in a draw.
The scores: England 209-5d (J. Brittin 84) and 28-2. India
315- 6d (A. Jain 110, S. Dabir 50 not out).
With the news that the selectors opted to rest Allan Donald for
the tour match between Orange Free State and England, England`s
Chairman and Manager, Richard Illingworth, too reiterates that he
should have such powers to rest players from tour matches, in the
interests of the national team - see article.
Warwickshire release Brian Lara from his three-year contract -

South Africa is currently considering the possibility of hosting
Sri Lanka for a three-Test match series next year - see article.
John Emburey attributes the stunning success so far of England
A`s tour of Pakistan to the discipline of the England A bowlers.
Warwickshire announce that their controversial Edgbaston Test
pitch will not be in use next summer when the Indians tour. The
move was not surprising after the loss to West Indies within
three days earlier this summer.
Yorkshire are set to remain at Headingley despite reports that
they are considering a move. The General Committee meet today to
think about the long term future of the club.
India will host the next women`s World Cup cricket championship
during December 1996, secretary of the All India Women`s Cricket
Federartion, Anuradha Dutta announced.

The fourth day`s play between England and South Africa is also
washed out in the First Test.
Pakistan A lose the first Test at Multan to England A by an innings and 43 runs. In their second innings, Pakistan A were all
out for 147 (Headley 5-34 and Stemp 5-64).
Australia win the second Test against Pakistan at Hobart by 155
runs. Chasing 367 to win, Pakistan were all out for 220 (Glenn
McGrath 5-61). Australia now lead the series 2-0, and the 3rd
and final Test will begin on Nov 30th.
The South Africa United Cricket Board have stated that an inquiry
will be held over the injury with which Brett Schultz was sidelined for during the first Test against England - see the article

Sky TV have secured exclusive rights to cover the sixth world cup
later next year in the subcontinent - see article.
Asanka Gurusinha, the Sri Lankan batsman will miss the tour match
against Sri Lanka, due to a suspected broken thumb - see article

Ramprakash could make for John Crawley for the 2nd Test against
South Africa. Ramprakash could only muster 9 in the first Test.
Paul Adams is overlooked for the South African squad to play England in the 2nd Test. However, former Sussex seamer, Meyrick
Pringle is included in place of the unfit Brett Schultz. There
is also the possibility that South Africa will play Clive Eksteen. Allan Donald will be rested for the tour match between
Orange Free State and England as the selectors wish to keep him
fit for the 2nd Test which begins on Nov 30th.
Northamptonshire have appointed former Middlesex player John Emburey as chief coach for the next 4 years. It is still unclear
whether Emburey will play for his new county. Emburey teams up
with Rob Bailey who replaces Allan Lamb as skipper, and Neil
Foster, the Northants new development coach, for the 1996 English
county season.

The third day`s play between England and South Africa is washed
out in the first Test.
Pakistan A are 115/5 in their second innings in reply to England
A`s first innings score of 327 all out.
Pakistan are 15/0 in their second innings in reply to Australia`s
second innings score of 306 all out (Mark Taylor 123). Pakistan
need a total of 367 in their second innings to win the second
Test.
In a tour match, Sri Lanka lose to Queensland by 46 runs. Chasing Queensland`s 208, Sri Lanka are bundled out for 162 (Stuart
Law 5-26).
Gloucestershire`s Andrew Symonds has been named in the Aus Prime
Minister`s XI to play the West Indies in Canberra on December
5th. The PM`s XI will be captained by Michael Bevan and will
also include former Test players such as Dean Jones and Carl
Rackemann.

India win the second one-day international against New Zealand at
Amritsar. Scores: New Zealand 145 all out (Prabhakar 5-33) vs
India 146/4.
England reach 381/9 at close day 2 against South Africa (Hick
141). Play was stopped prematurely due to bad weather. Play on
day 3 has also been delayed due to rain.
England A reach 287/6 at stumps day 2 against Pak A in the first
Test being played at Multan.
Pakistan are all out for 198 in reply to Australia`s 267 on day 2
at Hobart. At close, Australia reached 106/0 in their second innings.
Shane Warne has his toe broken by a Waqar Younis yorker. Warne
is likely to miss the third Test of the series.
None of the Sri Lankan cricketers will be able to play English
county cricket next season due to a tight international calendar;

Dickie Bird, a veteran of the World Cups from `75 to `87, has
been overlooked to umpire the World Cup games, for the second
tourney in succession. David Shepherd is named as the England`s
umpire. Each host nation has 2 umpires, whereas the other 6 Test
playing nations have one each. For a full list of the umpires

England reach 221/4 at close of day 1 in the first Test against
South Africa, with Graeme Hick unbeaten on 105.
Australia are all out for 267 in the second Test against Pakistan
at Hobart, Tasmania. At close day 1, Pakistan replied with 33/2.
Salim Malik and Saqlain were dropped, and replaced by Ijaz Ahmed
and Mushtaq.
England-A shot out Pakistan-A for 137 in the first Test at Multan. In reply Eng-A were 15/0 at stumps, day 1.

the US.

The Third test between New Zealand and India ends in a draw with
New Zealand declaring at 175/8. Narendra Hirwani, the legspinner from India celebrated his test recall by taking 6/59.
India win the series 1-0, and the focus now shifts to the one-day
internationals.
Australia beat Pakistan in the first Test by an innings. In reply to the host`s 463 all out, Pakistan could manage only 97 and
240. Shane Warne was adjudged the man of the match for his 11-
wicket haul. The second test starts on Friday at Hobart.

Play finally gets underway after a further three hour loss on day
4 of the test between India and New Zealand. At close, India declare their first innings at 296/8.
At close of play on day 3, Pakistan are 197/3 in their second innings after following on. Pakistan scored 97 in the first innings (Warne took 7/23)

The third day`s play between India and New Zealand is washed out
as cyclonic rains continue.
At close of play on day 2, Pakistan are 40/3 in reply to
