Near Misses:

GStA Sobers (WI) appeared in two matches with RGA Headley in England in 1973. Sobers had made his debut in the 5th Test of the 1953-54 home series against England. In the first Test of the same series GA Headley (RGA's father) made his final appearance.

JH Parks (only Test appearance) and L Hutton (Eng) made their debuts in the first Test of the 1937 series against New Zealand. DCS Compton debuted in the third match of the same series. JM Parks (JH's son) played only in the third Test match of the 1954 series against Pakistan with Compton in the side. Hutton played in the 1st and 4th (last) Tests, missing the 2nd and 3rd due to an injury.
