Fred Trueman has expressed his thanks for the show of support from the public
since the announcement that he had been diagnosed with cancer.
Trueman, the former Yorkshire and England fast bowler, is undergoing a course of
treatment for small cell carcinoma, a bronchial condition, and has received
thousands of cards wishing him well.
"I am deeply grateful to everyone who has sent their support during this
time,'' 75-year-old Trueman told PA. "It has cheered me up immensely during this
difficult time.''
Trueman, who was the first bowler to claim 300 Test wickets, finished with 307 victims in only 67 games, a record which was only beaten in 1976 by West Indies' Lance Gibbs.
