Scorecard
Phillip Hughes kept up the fine form he displayed in the ODI series against Sri Lanka, scoring a century on the second day of South Australia's Sheffield Shield match against Victoria. However, his efforts looked like being insufficient to gain first-innings points for the Redbacks, who at stumps were still 80 runs behind with only two wickets in hand.
Batting at No.3, Hughes made 120 including ten fours and two sixes and his scoring was all the more remarkable given that the next best was 22 not out from Joe Mennie, who was still at the crease at stumps alongside Chadd Sayers (2 not out). Hughes was eventually caught behind off the bowling of James Pattinson, who in his return from injury took 2 for 36 from 12 overs.
Will Sheridan collected 3 for 44 for the Bushrangers, including the important wicket of Callum Ferguson for 13. The day had started superbly for the Redbacks, who claimed the final four Victorian wickets for the addition of only five runs. Sayers finished with a career-best 6 for 49.
