PRESS RELEASE
Welsh Association for Cricketers with a Disability
Cricketers with physical and learning difficulties have received a boost with the creation of the Welsh Association for Cricketers with a Disability (WACD), an initiative backed by the Cricket Board of Wales.
The WACD aims to represent cricketers with a disability and is seeking to increase playing opportunities for cricket fanatics with disabilities and learning difficulties. It will arrange coaching sessions and competition at the appropriate level. Already, teams have played at Lords, Old Trafford, Edgbaston and Trent Bridge.
The WACD is now on the hunt for potential players for next year's County Championship and inter Wales matches, to build up the Welsh squad. This season Wales reached the County Championship final at Trent Bridge.
Director of Cricket Mark Frost said, "We're now looking right across Wales for players for the squad. This is an excellent chance to play top-level cricket, and the game can be very rewarding for players with difficulties or disabilities."
So if anyone is aware of any cricketer, junior or senior, who has a physical disability or has learning difficulties, please can they contact Mark Frost. cbw@ecb.co.uk
Girls, Girls, Girls
Budding female cricketers are to have even more opportunities to take to cricket thanks to the growing number of ladies clubs in Wales.
In a drive to increase the number of girls playing cricket, the Cricket Board of Wales plans to set up girls' only 6-a-side competition for primary schools across Wales.
The CBW is on the hunt for eight people across the country that would be willing to run local festivals of primary school teams.
Currently, the Wrigleys Kwik Cricket National Competition offers primary schools in Wales the chance to enter mixed teams which is also a great opportunity for schools to get girls playing cricket.
If your school or club would like to enter the Kwik Cricket competition or if you would like to organise a girls only festival in your area, please contact...Mark Frost at Sophia Gardens. cbw@ecb.co.uk
