The West Bengal Government has decided to honour Saurav Ganguly by naming a housing complex after him. Informing this at the Writers Building on Friday, the State Urban Development Minister Ashok Bhattacharya said that a complex with 80 flats coming up at Salt Lake will be called the `Saurav Housing Complex.' Bhattacharya also added that the government had received confirmation from Ganguly on this issue.
It has been the policy of the West Bengal Government to honour successful persons from West Bengal. However, Ganguly is the first sportsman to be included in the list of luminaries. Explaining the reasons for taking such a step, Bhattacharya said, ``Saurav has been the first one to have been appointed the captain of the Indian cricket team on a long-term basis. Pankaj Roy had been appointed as the skipper of the Indian side. However, he was a substitute captain.''
