The Cable and Wireless Cricket Club cruised past the All-stars Cricket Club this past weekend in the CCB sponsored Local League Cricket Tournament in Anguilla en-route to their second victory in as many matches. It was a keenly contested battle which pitted two of the strongest clubs on the island. Winning the toss and batting first the All-stars struggled to 112 all out on the first day.
Only the in-form Leon Lake (33) was capable of providing any resistance for the All-tars as he added another decent score to his name. Wiley off-spinner, and former West Indies Youth Team selectee, Paulivor Rogers claimed 5 wickets as he destroyed the All-stars middle order while pacer, Terry Adams captured 3 wickets In reply, Cable and Wireless got off to another prolific start as their Captain, Leeward Islands opener, Alex Adams smashed his way to an entertaining knock of 80 and was ably assisted by his brother Terry Adams who added a solid knock of 63 to his three wickets.
Opener, Rhon Rogers also chipped in with a typically flashy 22 that helped his side to 224 all out. Off-spinner, Rudolph Proctor, was the pick of the bowlers with 3 wickets while pacer, Marlon Martin and off-spinner, Omari Banks claimed 2 wickets apiece. The All-stars second turn at the crease proved to be better then their first, but it still was not enough. Veteran, Rudolph Proctor added to his three wickets with a knock of 53 and was ably assisted by Tyrone Hughes who played well for his 47.
The All-stars were eventually all out for 184 and Paulivor Rogers took his match total to 11 wickets as he spun his way to 6 more in the second innings. This left the Cable and Wireless Cricket Club just 72 to score for victory, which they did, in convincing fashion, with just one wicket down. Alex Adams added another innings of quality to his already prolific season as he finished with 49 not out. Rhon Rogers also aided his team's cause as he finished with 20. The CCB Local League continues this weekend with the ALHCS Spartans taking on the Nagico Upsetters Cricket Club.
