WEST INDIES v ENGLAND 1993-94

At Port-of-Spain, March 5

15-Apr-1995
At Port-of-Spain, March 5. West Indies won by 15 runs, England's target having been revised to 209 from 36 overs. Toss: England.
Everything fell in England's favour in this match, but still the result went against them. Winning the toss on a pitch damp and uneven enough to make life unpleasant for the batsmen, they bowled without discipline to concede almost six runs an over. Yet they received the lifeline of a substantially reduced target after rain ended West Indies' innings.
Needing 209 from 36 overs, they were on course as long as Atherton and Smith were together. But a familiar collapse ensued, in an unfamiliar manner, against the off-spin of Harper. For West Indies, Haynes made the 17th one-day international century of his long career and batted through all but two overs of the innings, though never more destructively than in the initial hour, when England conceded any right to victory in this match or the series.
Man of the Match: D. L. Haynes.
