Leicestershire County Cricket Club are pleased to announce that former captain James Whitaker has been appointed as Secretary/General Manager in succession to David Collier who will be joining Nottinghamshire CCC as their new Chief Executive.
James Whitaker is currently managing the England U19 team who are competing in the World Cup in Sri Lanka and James will take up his new position with Leicestershire on February 7th.
Whitaker made his debut for Leicestershire in 1983 and retired with a knee injury from competitive cricket in 1999 having scored more than 17,000 First-Class runs and captained Leicestershire to their County Championship successes in 1996 and 1998. He played in one Test match for England in Australia in 1986/87 and scored 38 First Class hundreds.
Leicestershire chairman Roger Goadby commented:
"James has played a great part in the development of Leicestershire as one of the best county squads in the country. His man management and communication skills have been widely recognised and he was rewarded with the Tour Manager position of the England U19 team this winter. His wider management skills have been developed at the Bradford Management School and we believe that the continuity provided by James' appointment will prove to be a great asset to the club. We are delighted that James has accepted the position and look forward to James leading Leicestershire forward into the new Millennium."
