Cameron White plucked four wickets for Victoria as they consigned Queensland to their first defeat in the ING Cup this season - by the slender margin of 11 runs. Not even the return of Shane Watson and Andrew Symonds could preserve the Bulls' unbeaten record after they slumped to 235 all out under the lights, chasing 247.
They set off well in pursuit of a sixth successive victory after Jimmy Maher posted 59. But after the dangerous Symonds, batting at No. 3, was dismissed for 12 by Ian Harvey, White came on to do further damage. He removed Watson, who sent one to Darren Hussey after notching 71, then Brad Hodge caught Clinton Perren for his second wicket. White went on to take return catches from Brendan Nash and Nathan Hauritz in quick succession, grabbing 4 for 42, as Queensland ran out of steam.
Half-centuries from Darren Hussey and Adam Crosthwaite had earlier rescued Victoria from a mid-innings wobble. The openers Jonathan Moss and Matthew Elliott had got them off to a good start before Elliott was undone by Ashley Noffke, edging through to Maher. Noffke then trapped Hodge without scoring as Victoria slipped to 2 for 48. But they recovered and went on to inflict defeat against a shell-shocked Queensland outfit, who nevertheless remain top of the table heading into the New Year.
