Cameron White will captain the Prime Minister's XI for the second consecutive season as they take on the touring Sri Lankans in Canberra next Wednesday. Sri Lanka are returning to Australia for the CB Series and will warm up with a one-day clash against a strong PM's XI that features four players with international experience.
White can use the match to press for a return to the Australia ODI line-up after being overlooked for the World Cup last year. His Victoria team-mate David Hussey, who must also be close to international selection, has been named vice-captain.
The impressive batting order also boasts the in-form Western Australians Luke Pomersbach, who was a surprise call-up for Australia's Twenty20 international against New Zealand last month, Luke Ronchi and Shaun Marsh. Phillip Hughes, the 19-year-old New South Wales opener, has also been included.
"This year's side has a good mix of experience and youth to take on what will possibly be a full strength Sri Lankan team," Andrew Hilditch, Australia's chairman of selectors, said. "Players are always excited about being selected to play in the PM's XI and will be keen to perform well against the likes of Muttiah Muralitharan, Sanath Jayasuria, Chaminda Vaas and Lasith Malinga."
The attack features Ben Hilfenhaus, who made his ODI debut last summer, and Ashley Noffke, who made his Twenty20 international debut alongside Pomersbach against New Zealand. Sri Lanka also have a practice match against Tasmania before the tri-series begins in early February.
