By moving the traditional Australia Day fixture from Adelaide to Sydney - with its more cosmopolitan catchment area - Cricket Australia hoped to capitalise on the presence of India, on what was also their Republic Day. But rain brought a premature conclusion after 16 overs, during which Dhawan again dabbed uncertainly outside off stump. The two points awarded to each team meant India could still qualify for the final with victory over England four days later. Attendance: 22,692.
