Leicestershire v Sri Lankans

Wisden's review of the tour match, Leicestershire v Sri Lankans

15-Apr-2017
At Leicester, May 13-15. Drawn. Toss: Sri Lankans.
The Sri Lankans' shaky build-up to the Test series continued against an inexperienced Leicestershire, who made nine changes from their previous game. After choosing to bat, the tourists careered to 192 for eight, before Shanaka - who struck four sixes in a 132-ball 112 - and Herath added 174. But respite was temporary, as several Leicestershire batsmen seized their chance. Burgess and Wells both hit career-bests, with Wells missing out on a maiden hundred when he failed to accelerate on the final morning. Stranded on 87 - like Ravi Bopara in the previous warm-up match - he was apparently unaware that after 100 overs the curtain would fall on the innings. Sri Lanka were better in their second, with Karunaratne retiring after reaching a hundred, but plenty of questions remained ahead of the First Test at Headingley.
