The traditional playing area of Israeli youth cricket is being steadily expanded, with Zichron Yaakov in the North and Eilat in the South the latest cities to boast cricket chugim (after school activities). Thanks to the initiave of local dad Jason Ryker, the Zichron team has already participated in three tournaments and has a good attendance at their practices every Sunday afternoon. Eilat, better known for its luxury hotels, beaches and sun every day of the year, has had a team participating in the senior league for two seasons already, but the visit of ICA Youth Coordinator George Sheader last week was the first time kids in the Southern resort got a chance to play. Sheader, together with locals Isaac Solomon and Roger Meyer, visited schools and ran after school practices which were warmly received by everybody, and will hopefully be the prelude to activities on a regular basis.
In addition to the new centers, youth practices have been restarted by Steven Shein in Ra'anana on Saturday evenings for ages 8 - 13, Yonni Sidelsky has a group going in Rishon L'Zion and Sheader and Naor Gudker are busy every day in Be'er Sheva and other Negev towns.
