Sri Lanka in Bangladesh 2013-14 November 20, 2013

Bangladesh-SL Tests from January 27

Sri Lanka's tour of Bangladesh, which was scheduled for February 2014, has been advanced by a few days to allow the Asia Cup to kick off on February 24. Bangladesh will now host Sri Lanka for two Tests starting on January 27, a week after Sri Lanka's Test series against Pakistan in the UAE concludes. The teams will also play two Twenty20s and three ODIs during the series, which ends on February 22, two days before the Asia Cup begins in Bangladesh.

Mirpur and Chittagong will get a Test each, while the teams will also travel to Sylhet for the limited-overs games. The ODI in Sylhet, on February 17, will provide the BCB an opportunity to check how match-fit the ground is. The Twenty20 scheduled between Bangladesh and New Zealand here in November 2013 was shifted out, with the BCB scrambling to meet the ICC's deadline of November 30 to have the stadium fully ready for the World Twenty20. The Sri Lanka ODI will be the first international game at the venue since its completion.

The two teams last faced off in March 2013, in Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka won the two-Test series 1-0, the ODIs were tied 1-1, and the hosts won the one-off T20.

To all SL Fan: You guys really dont know what SL mean to Bangladeshi Fan. SL were our dream team when Bangladesh were not in cricket. Every single Bangladeshi fan used to support Sri Lanka. So just show some respect to Bangladesh and its fan.

We should have mutual respect for each other. Welcome to Bangladesh !

we are expecting a good series from the best team of bangladesh. We have few thing to be proud. Cricket team is my pride

  • Jegenadhan_94 on November 25, 2013, 2:18 GMT

Its hilarious that anyone mentioned SL was not a big team. Even according to that explanation India isn't a BIG team because they are absolutely poor outside the subcontinent. Every team is strong usually on there own deck. Ausie team in under Pontings captaincy between 2002-2007 was the only team that could perform anywhere without a hesitation.. India too lost in BD. Surely this is going to be a very good series. Best of luck to both teams..

WARM WELCOME SL. To BCB, I don't know what do you have in your mind. You people can arrange more 1 or 2 T20 matches excluding 1 ODI. Ultimately that could be a best practice, consdring T20 WC. Best of luck TIGERS.

  • on November 24, 2013, 0:50 GMT

Sl is not a BIG team. BIG teams are Australia, South Africa, England and India, although they do not play well outside of their country. SL is a middle class team whereas BD is rapidly moving from lower class to middle class and is very close. If u do not count Sanga and Jayawardone then BD and SL are the same quality. Since the games will be played in BD and given the current form of BD my predictions for BD are: odi 2-1, t20 1-1, and test 0-0 or 0-1.

  • on November 23, 2013, 19:38 GMT

Sri Lanka should rest their senior pros for this series as they need to try out their youngsters and the best time is this series as Bangladesh will make them get challenged, and from this challenge they can carry the momentum from the challenges and put it to the test against the much stronger teams. In tests i am assuming Herath will make a difference as well as Gazi and Shakib.

Let's give the Srilankan team a warm welcome. We appreciate teams like SL and NZ playing us whereas other so called "big teams" do not play us. I am hoping for a good hard fought series. We Bangladeshis are proud of our team but let us not get carried away with unnecessary remarks. SL team is experienced and we have a very poor record against them. However, this two teams are more equal, especially in BD. Respect for SL from BD but I do hope we win the series. Go Tigers!

  • on November 23, 2013, 8:45 GMT

It is going to be a interesting series between both these teams, because they both seem to have different type of physical make-up. Bangladeshi players seem to develop early and fade away before they reach in their early thirties years of age, while the Sri Lankans players seem to develop late and can perform well up to their forties years of age. I think Bangladesh home advantage will be crucial.

This will no doubt be a good exciting series. Sri Lanka after playing Pakistan will get a good run. No doubt Bangladesh will be tough at home going on current form. Dont think that Lankan youngsters are weak as Sachithra Senanayake, Kushal Perera, Lahiru Thirmanne will no doubt dominate just like Mominul Haque, Sohag Gazi etc. Tests could be 0-0 draw but ODIs and T20s are in favor of Sri Lanka. No doubt Bangladesh deserves more tests going by the current form. Wish tigers the best of luck as cricket world needs you all a lot.

  • Jegenadhan_94 on November 23, 2013, 3:25 GMT

My fellow Bangladesh supporters you never can take easy at all about youngsters like kusal ,chandimal, thirimanne & mathews because there are technically perfectsound players. I don't think that any of Bangladeshian batsman is technically perfect more than that.. They only wanted some international game experience when they came into the side. Now it's time to them to perform. Tigers are in good shape but I never think it's enough to overcome LIONS spirit..

  • i_golam on November 22, 2013, 14:43 GMT

I think BD has a great opportunity here! Srilanka is good but some of Mahela and Sangakara falls then they are not much better than BD ... so right now when BD is in great shape then I think BD will push srilanka hard and push to the end! I actually believe in a clear BD series win in one day games and 1-0 on the test! and guys ... all this I say is not just speculation ... This is an expression that comes after carefully read team analys & current statistics of players' individual fitness curve !!! ... Once again ... Guys .. Beware of Tigers !!

  • asiacricket1234 on November 22, 2013, 12:49 GMT

Going through the comments & wondering the thinking process of some of my fellow Bangladeshis. SL without a doubt one of the finest team in the world and we are at the bottom of ever single ranking yet they are claiming that SL series gonna be a cake walk for us. I wonder if these people will be around here if we lose these series? Bangladesh have to excel their performance if they wanna fight against SL specially in test and T20. We couldn't even beat NZ at home despite the fact that they are one of the worst test team. Anyway good luck Bangladesh. Expectiing them to at least win the ODI series and draw the test series. As for T20 I dont think our boys know how to play that format so it'll be 2-0 to SL

  • jubairhasan on November 22, 2013, 11:58 GMT

Here is a warning for the SL team and their fans...Don't do the mistake of taking tigers lightly as the whole cricketing world few weeks ago watched how ferocious they were while on hunting mode. I think the coming series (Tigers vs Lions) will be another exciting ones. We, the BD cricket-loving people, are waiting for the clash.

  • SAYEM15 on November 22, 2013, 11:42 GMT

Haters going to hate. But Lions will roar................

  • TigerRoars on November 21, 2013, 23:49 GMT

SL will likely be favored in tests and T20. However, I expect a series win in the ODI. Team selection will be a key.

  • Rezaul on November 21, 2013, 20:40 GMT

I want to remind my fellow Bangladeshi supporters that please keep your expectations in check. SL is not NZL. They are experienced in spinning conditions. So, I would say it will be a tough ask for Bangladesh team to come out as series winner. But its NOT impossible. Go Tigers, Go.

  • on November 21, 2013, 19:30 GMT

Srilanka are nothing without mahela and sanga.....even afghanistan would beat them easily.....they just have to take the top 4 wickets then its a cake walk.....and SL in Bangladesh winning a series???!!! lol in their dreams.....

  • Blade-Runnor on November 21, 2013, 15:46 GMT

Don't be over confidence guys. Bangladesh is doing very good these days. They have beaten NZ few days ago where as SL has struggled to bean NZ. Bangladesh team is packed with good players and have nice balance with all rounders as well. At home they are like tigers. It is good to see Tiger Vs Lion.

  • Jadejafan on November 21, 2013, 14:56 GMT

Very impressed by what BD have done since 2012 wish the team all the best. Sri Lanka are overrated and heavily rely on their seniors. Even our Indian team thrashes them every time. BD should have another successful series against the new weak team.

  • asiacricket1234 on November 21, 2013, 12:12 GMT

it'll be absolute madness if someone thinks that BD gonna win this series easily. SL is far better team than NZ & BD & we should not forget that Bangladesh couldnt even beat NZ at home although NZ is not a good test team. Against SL we're not going to have the benefits we had against NZ. SL has some of the finest batsmen of our time (Sanga, Mahela etc) & they are not weak against spin either In fact they have good spin bowling attack so having spin friendly track may backfare. BD team have to play way better than how they played against NZ if they wanna save the test series and win the ODI series. Good Luck to them & hope they step up. I hope BCB will take good care of SL team so they can learn how to treat a foreign team. last time we went there SLC was awful. Didn't even let us practice properly not to mention how they changed the outfield in the innings break to give benefit to home team. Hope such thing wont happen in BD so SL can learn how to be fair Looking forward to this series

  • BDrox11 on November 21, 2013, 11:38 GMT

  • King_Ravanaa on November 21, 2013, 11:18 GMT

And talking about T20 world cup in Bangladesh, i wouldn't able to stop my laugh when from first round Bangalis kicked out from the World Cup which is gonna held in their own country lol .. they still have to play against teams like Afganistan and Ireland to qualify to play against giants lol

  • King_Ravanaa on November 21, 2013, 10:48 GMT

i still remember when SLC given that rare chance to this Bangladesh cricket team, who doesn't regarded by anyone to give a full series, the way they act here in Cricinfo. some say they gonna clean sweep us in tests in ODI's and T20's. and the final result was only able to win a single rare ODI thanks to the rain god. lol.. so bring it on Bangladesh fans, make us laugh at you..lol

  • King_Ravanaa on November 21, 2013, 10:44 GMT

so final words are, "Bring it On".., i noted few comments from die hard Bangladesh fans, hope you guys would not hide away when this useless series for SL begins lol

  • King_Ravanaa on November 21, 2013, 10:36 GMT

no surprise about the image of the people regarding Bangladesh and it's Cricket team when reading these comments from Bangladesh fans. really do feel sorry for them still trying for 15 years now lol

  • King_Ravanaa on November 21, 2013, 10:34 GMT

seeing the comments of these Bangladesh fans, make sympathy for them. it shows how much these fans are having high hopes for their team. though they achieved nothing in Cricketing world, still consider as Minnows by other teams and their fans yet these Bangla fans have nice attitude to talk about other teams.. words doesn't matter, what it matters the most is the way you act in the middle.

  • Energetic. on November 21, 2013, 9:37 GMT

Bangladesh will be too strong I'm afraid especially playing at home with huge support. Sri Lanka are only competitive because of their experience senior 4 of Sanga, Mahela, Dilshan and Herath. They don't have any quality young talent bar Matthews. The average age of Bangladesh side is 23 whereas Sri Lanka 29 so future is clear. My test 11 - Tamim, Marshall, Naeem, Mominul, Shakib, Rahim, Nasir, Mahmudullah, Gazi, Robiul and Al-Amin. My ODI 11 - Tamim, Shamsur, Naeem, Shakib, Nasir, Rahim, Mahmudullah, Gazi or Zia, Mashrafe, Razzak and Rubel. Our team looks solid and exciting now.

  • IndianCoolGuy on November 21, 2013, 6:57 GMT

Well, That's the right contest between two equal strength nations. Here I would say Bangladesh is clear favorites. They have beaten NZ comprehensively and where SL is struggling for a win against them. If Bangladesh gets 'BIG 3' wickets quickly, then rest of them are just a cake walk. I would say Bangladesh has a good chance here to clean sweep. I wish all the best Bangladesh.

  • SriLionKing on November 21, 2013, 4:54 GMT

Well BD fans..yes!your team is young n talented.but let's see what will happen.. There were some comnts abt NZ bwlers..Are they weak??hahaa may be they have some troubles in sub.cont flat-tracks bt not in bouncing tracks..Also now in SLanka, our pitches r more familiar 4 seamers than spiners! Kusal Perera should play in this full tour n Asia cup as well. All the best 4 SL(Lions)!! Jaya Sri!!

  • on November 21, 2013, 4:09 GMT

  • on November 20, 2013, 20:49 GMT

Mominul is a Very talented for BD too!

Great series in prospect. I think the difference will be the SL seniors and Herath. But if they dont play, then i think Bangladesh will easily beat them.

  • Captainman on November 20, 2013, 18:27 GMT

Sri Lanka are a declining team. Mominul Haque will easily score a double 100 against their weak bowlers. Even if its a rank turner we have our spinners to tear them up.

  • Warm_Coffee on November 20, 2013, 17:51 GMT

I can easily see another successful series for Bangladesh and feel that 2014 will be the most successful year to date for Bangladesh Cricket anyway. Sri Lanka bowling attack is weaker than New Zealand and West Indies and we all saw how our batsman enjoyed these Sri Lanka bowlers in their grounds. Their team is still competitive because of their experience trio and without them the team is nothing. Our young talent is far superior to Sri Lanka I'm sorry to say. Don't forget Shakib and Mashrafe were missing in that away tour to Sri Lanka so Sri Lanka are going to struggle big time. I predict 0-0 drawn test series, 1-1 T20 and 3-0 thrashing for Lanka in ODI series mark my words. Sri Lanka series will be good practice for Asia Cup.

  • Llka on November 20, 2013, 17:49 GMT

@M_Rakibul_Islam,fans like you should not comment about bd.your commnt will decreas thier confidience.

  • M_Rakibul_Islam on November 20, 2013, 17:20 GMT

This series won't b easy for BD. Lankans r stronger than Kiwis. Don't forget SL national team cricketers like Dilshan, Methews & many more has played in domestic List A tournament in BD. So condition will make no difference between BD & SL. Lankans r favorite in all 3 departments & formats by any means. But a strong & brave per4mance can bring some good news for BD. They should target at least to draw test & t20 series & to finish odi series at least 1-2 if not 2-1.

  • vinjoy on November 20, 2013, 17:20 GMT

SL is playing a lot of cricket against BD and Pak, in last few years. Not a good sign and not an ideal process to improve rankings!

  • on November 20, 2013, 16:38 GMT

I am hoping for a great series between the two teams. I hope that the Tigers play to their potential. I do wish we had more pace options, but I will take what we have. Best wishes to both teams.

  • chechong0114 on November 20, 2013, 15:53 GMT

This series will be absolutely awesome especially considering the fact that its 2 Asian nations. Bangladesh has been playing great cricket of late and is starting to show itself as an emerging powerhouse in International cricket and SL AS WE KNOW IS JUST AN EXCELLENT TEAM all round. I rate this series between these 2 giants as big as the Ashes. But what is even greater and more exciting is the crowd turnout in Bangladesh which is always great at both test and limited over versions of the game. The people in Bangladesh pay their money and go out and support their team in the stands on game day and that's just excellent for the game on the whole. This thing is just huge on all levels and I know they will give the fans their money's worth. Hats of to both teams hope for great weather, sold out crowds and tons of revenue to all involved!!!

  • Rezaul on November 20, 2013, 15:02 GMT

I think this series is going to be very interesting. Bangladesh will face the biggest ask from SL which will be more that WI and NZL. Can't wait to see the action begins. Good luck to both teams. @MyFellowBangladeshSupporters/SLSupporters. Please no harsh comments this time to irk each others. As much as I like my team Bangladesh, I like to watch Mahela, Sanga, Dilshan on action. I feel bad, when I see few supporters from both sides were fighting on cricinfo during last series. And, Ind/Pakis fueled on the arguments. So, keep it up, in good spirit.

  • Josh333 on November 20, 2013, 14:49 GMT

When last did Bangladesh play South Africa, Australia and England in a test match. The ICC does not know how to schedule matches really. They schedule on an ad-hoc basis rather then in future. They should schedule matches 3 years in advance so no changes can happen. Work smart ICC. They need a KPI rethink

  • tariq_piash on November 20, 2013, 14:49 GMT

This tour is going to be a completely different tour for SRL from all their previous tours of BD. In past when SL toured BD, BD were completely underdog, as SL used to win all series 2-0 or 3-0 against BD...but time has changed. Now SL cant win ODI series against BD even in SL (last year the drew 1-1 in SL). So it's going to be tougher for SL to think of winning series in BD. More to note that teams like WI and NZ are now-a-days losing ODI series regularly in BD (most of the time being whitewashed). Though SL is better side than this 2 teams, they are no more favorite in BD....So welcome SL to BD for a different experience.

  • Tal_Botvinnik on November 20, 2013, 14:49 GMT

Srilanka is definitely stronger than Newzeland. Bangladesh should focus on that series from now on. If we can draw test series(i repeate again-draw, as we are yet not in a position to win a test series against Srilanka.) and win ODI series then we can send a very strong message to the world that now we are in line with major forces of world cricket.
