After the disastrous performance in the first two one-days, and a moderately liven up demonstration in the final one, yet, Trevor Chappell has to shuffle his thoughts over the coming test which looks as if an ordeal Bangladesh is going to pass over. Now the question that hangs around in public mind that how the team would be formed against their brawny opponents. If we measure up the strength and weaknesses of our team inch-by-inch, then what would be the output? Let's check.
Before leaving Dhaka, it was an unanimously composed assumption that the team's batting is it's strongest side where as the bowling department especially the pacers are inadequate in overseas tracks. The idea has been changed after the whitewash they received from Zimbabwe. These three matches, except the last one, proved the inefficiency and lack of temperament of our over-rated batsmen, not the seam bowlers whose' performance refute all previous arguments. Now, what would be the team look like that takes on in their first outlandish tour?
Four batsmen are on tussling for the opening position- Mehrab, Javed Omar, Ashraful and Al-Sahariar. Among them the consistent presentation of Javed Omar, a reputed batsman in the longer version of the game, is undoubtedly favoring him to face the new ball on 19th April. So, the rest three are fighting for the other end and Mehrab seems to be in the agreeable standing for his 76 facing quality seam attack of Zimbabwe-A. Al-Sahariar is always becoming the escape-goat of the selection committee, therefore, his fluctuating feat has placed him in a precarious position. As for Ashraful, he is rookie enough to tackle such matured level. So, the combination speaks for Javed Omar and Mehrab. The next four seats are reserved constantly for Habibul Bashar, Aminul Islam, Akram Khan and Naimur Rahman. Aminul, despite his feeble notches, is technically very sound and his experience of 145 is going to be an added advantage.
Far as we see, four places are left for the bowlers and the number of contestants is six herethree seam bowlers, one all-rounder and two left-arm off-spinners. Hasibul Hussain is obviously going to start with the new ball and his partner could be either Md. Sharif or Manjurul. Mushfiqur Rahman should be third choice for Trevor if his batting is brought into importance, he is the only genuine all-rounder of the crews. Manjurul may have a steady line and length which is more expedient in limited over matches than in test level. Sharif outshines him by his variation and pace, plus he is pretty handy with the bat down the order that Manjurul is short of. Md. Rafique's experience rivaling India is a bonus that will leave Enamul Haque behind. He bowled reasonably well against strong Indian batting which keeps him ahead, besides his blaring batting capability put him into a categorical standpointhe should be in the field on 19th instant and we are avidly waiting for that.
