Pakistan 11/2 to take Group 2

ESPNcricinfo staff

Despite defeat in their opening match of the World T20, Pakistan showed their ability in the shortest format with a comfortable defeat of Australia and can now be backed at 11/2 to win Group 2.

India sit in pole position at the moment with two wins from two but they face Australia in one of their final two matches and if the dangerous Aussies - the pre-tournament favourites - can defeat India, the door will open for Pakistan to take top spot in the group.

Pakistan should find no problems against Bangladesh but have West Indies to get past. However the showing West Indies gave in their opening match suggests they are not in the form that sent them to glory two years ago. They look vulnerable and if Australia can do them a favour, Pakistan are a live chance to pip their neighbours and win the group.

This scenario has only now dawned on India!! I kept blogging during the WI game that India HAS TO think about upping the run rate - Instead they slowed up!! Dhoni talks about taking it one match at a time. BUT if the win becomes a certainty then surely one should look ahead and see the BIG PICTURE! Slow batting in the end did not help the cause and brought India's run rate down. Now if all games go according to form and if India lose to Aus then India will most likely be eliminated!!

A comfortable defeat of Australia? With 10 overs left Australia should have won - 7.5 RPO needed and 2 batsmen going well, 8 wickets in the shed...I guess that's the changing nature of T20 cricket.
