West Indies tri-series June 17, 2013

India squad unchanged for West Indies tri-series

ESPNcricinfo staff
224

India have named an unchanged squad from the one playing in the Champions Trophy for the ODI tri-series in the West Indies, which begins on June 28. The continuity is reflective of the team's success in the ongoing tournament, where they have reached the semi-finals after winning all their group matches.

The squad includes five seam bowlers in Umesh Yadav, Ishant Sharma, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Irfan Pathan and Vinay Kumar, and three spinners: R Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja and Amit Mishra. MS Dhoni, Shikhar Dhawan, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Suresh Raina, Dinesh Karthik and M Vijay constitute the batting.

India will travel to the West Indies following the Champions Trophy, for the series that also includes the hosts and Sri Lanka.

The make-up of the squad indicates that the Indian selectors, in relation to the one-day team, have turned their focus firmly on World Cup 2015. India had fielded a new-look team for the Champions Trophy, dropping seniors like Gautam Gambhir and Yuvraj Singh. These players as well as others - including Zaheer Khan, Virender Sehwag and Harbhajan Singh - who had been central to India's success over the previous decade but have had form and injury issues of late, remain sidelined.

I think this is a fabulous team. Credit goes to selectors for choosing such a blend of talents. Guys like Dhawan,Karthik &Jadeja, Bhuvi were amongst the runs and wickets respectively in the recent Ranji trophy. So the boards decision of preparing sporting wickets (wickets with some kind of juice) auguring well. Now all the Batsmen are able to counter the bounce on offer in England and bowlers making good use of it. Mind you, when we won the CB series in Australia, senior players like Dravid & Ganguly are dropped and selectors brought in Praveen & Rohit which reaped great rewards. Likewise the youngsters are doing it now. Go on Team India ! Clinch this cup also.

I think Dinesh Karthik is the one who made all the difference to this Indian batting line up. It was his super form that pushed Rohit up the order where he is tasting success. As a result the opening worries are sorted out now. The middle order suddenly seems more strengthened with Kholi, Raina and Karthik which means less burden on Dhoni & Jadeja. Overall this reshuffling of batting order done wonders for India. I think, even if some of these players fail in few matches, the team should persist with them and be given more opportunities.

I think its a great team. They've performed very well in the English conditions and West Indies isn't going to be much different - the same pace and bounce and the occasional help for spinners. More importantly the fielding has been exceptional and clearly this is the best fielding bunch India has ever had and the selectors wouldn't want to mess with that. Gambhir has been okay lately but Yuvraj and Zaheer are far from okay and its important that the team performs well and not just looks strong on paper with the likes of Sehwag, Yuvraj and Zaheer in the team.

  • sweetspot on June 17, 2013, 10:26 GMT

Overall very good team, with options galore for MSD. We can imagine changing this person for that, but this team doesn't have too many unanswered questions. It's also good the selectors are thinking along the lines of some continuity over two series, in different conditions.

Specific to Vijay, I think he was spectacular in the Australia test series, and has given the selectors confidence, along with Shikhar Dhawan. (The selection for CT took place well before the IPL was over, so same criteria for both). With the ball not swinging much, he could have very well opened and been successful in the CT, even though it was DK who pushed Rohit Sharma up the order.

We never know with Rohit Sharma - he may easily slip into indifferent form. It's good to have a specialist opener to take his spot.

I still feel the likes of MS Dhoni, Ravi Ashwin, Ravi Jadeja & V Kohli are playing non stop cricket ever since the England Test Series (these men play all the 3 formats & are regular starters). Considering that we have an away seriesl against Zimbabwe, some Champions League games & Australia ODI series before the big series vs SA., its high time these 4 men are replaced in the squad atleast for Tri-Series.

Replace MSD --> Yuvraj Singh Ashwin --> Harbhajan Singh Kohli --> Rahane Jadeja --> Ojha

It could very well serve as a squad rotation as well as give likes Rahane, Bhajji much needed cricket.

    My ideal XI : 1.Rohit (captain) 2. Dhawan 3. Rahane 4.Karthik (WK) 5.Yuvraj Singh 6.Raina 7.Harbhajan 8.Ojha 9. Bhuvaneshwar Kumar 10.Umesh Yadav 11.Ishant Sharma

Comments may come regarding reverting back to Yuvi & Bhajji but Bhajji was seriously very good in IPL. And replace Vijay for Gauti. One of the better chances to experiment this time around.

I think this team is better. But instead of vijay, gambhir would be the best option in the squad. Gambhir can play as an opener or an one down position. Atleast for ZIM tour Gambhir should be picked into the squad. GAMBHIR is a better ODI player and big match winner than Vijay. I was surprised why dhoni was not using IRFAN PATHAN in playing XI while umesh yadav is expensive. Even umesh having pace, but not having much control on it. Inclusion of IRFAN PATHAN also increases the depth in batting and also can bowl well.

  • Johnny_129 on June 19, 2013, 9:13 GMT

Fair selection, I feel, given India's recent showing on foreign soil. I would, however, like to see Praveen Kumar back in the mix as soon as possible. Not too long ago he was the toast of India, much like Bhuvaneshwar is right now. Praveen copped a few injuries and seems to have been forgotten already! Praveen has the best record of all pace bowlers to have ever played for India and he was a great success, here, in Australia - the wickets here suit his bowling. With the next WC being in Australia, Praveen would be a great addition - even at the expense of Vinay Kumar.

  • on June 19, 2013, 8:38 GMT

Overall satisfactory selection by Indian selectors. However there are couple of changes I would like to see. Murali Vijay Vinay Kumar & Amit Mishra have been ordinary in ODI. I would like them to be replaced by Cheteswar Pujara, Praveen Kumar & Karan Sharma. Bringing these guys gives the team a better look. Selectors can also try them along with Pravez Rassol, Ishwar Pandey, Gautam Gambhir, Manoj Tiwary, Jaydev Unadkat for the Zimbawe tour resting Ashwin, Yadav, MSD, Raina, Bhuvi.

  • Paddy789 on June 19, 2013, 8:03 GMT

Good Team Selection for the WI tour, we also need to test other players as well and they can have their chance in the tour of ZIM, My Team for ZIM tour : Gambhir, Sehwag (C), A Rahane, Yuvraj Singh, M Tiwary, A Rayadu, M Gautam (WK), Harbhajan Singh, P Kumar, S Ahmed, P Ojha, P Rasool, P Patel, V Aaron, D Kulkarni.

  • on June 19, 2013, 6:58 GMT

The selectors should use the tour of West Indies for setting up the Bowling Department, our lineup of Dhawan,Rohit,Virat, Karthik,Raina, Dhoni, Jadeja, Ashwin,Bhuvneshwar, Umesh can be persisted with till the 2015 World Cup, the 11th position to Ishant Sharma is still debatable, the selectors should check Vinay and Irfan in WI and Zim ODI tours to see their condition at international level. And since we are cohesing the team for the 2015 WC in Australia, there is no point carrying Vijay and Amit Mishra with the team, as they cannot be making the XI in Australian conditions. We should consider getting Ajinkya Rahane in place of Vijay and one left arm pace bowler maybe Jaydev Unadkat to replace Amit Mishra, and keep this 15 to play all matches. Zaheer Khan, Murli Vijay will be still be an asset for us in Test Matches, for Viru,Gauti, Bhajji and Yuvi, its going to be a long wait, if ever they can break into this team

  • john_srk on June 19, 2013, 5:54 GMT

This is one of excellent move and this Indian has potential. They are excellent on the filed. The batting is in prime forms. Only India needs to develops some good and genuine pace bowlers. They one department India is struggling let bit rest will be fine. I would still prefer they will give some chance to some quick bowlers.

  • stickboy on June 19, 2013, 3:37 GMT

Im Australian, and love the Australian cricket team (as a team, but not certain individuals). I must say though that India has finally gotten to a point that was similar of the Australian team where they have a very solid squad with lots of quality back up players, however the interesting thing is that the superstars in India's case aren't even in the squad. This is quite scary from a non Indian supporters perspective.

  • jhovee on June 19, 2013, 3:01 GMT

Who is the most consistent XI since WC Win: Dhoni,Kohli.. anyone i left? I have not seen any consistent bowler in Indian ODI Squad for 2 years or more other than Ashwin! ?

  • on June 19, 2013, 0:37 GMT

What was so rush in selecting team for West Indies series? Can't they wait till the end of this tournament? Are they scared that it may become tough to pick Rohit Sharma if they wait more! Just two fifties are not enough to earn place after so many chances. He better play match winning game in the remaining important matches.

  • Cover_drive_55 on June 18, 2013, 20:52 GMT

The concept of retaining the same team from CT to WI tour was spot on; after all the team is winning, and only 3 ODIs in CT so far to conclude a change. It sends the right message to all players. Couple of players have not been doing great (fast bowlers), but may be they want to give them extended run before making a call. The selection of the 2-3 current players from the 15-member CT squad though was questionable, in first place, but they can't be dropped now based on the CT performance especially if they were not in final XI

  • on June 18, 2013, 20:27 GMT

Maybe Mohit Sharma for Vinay & Pujara / Manoj Tiwary for Raina.

  • Al_Bundy1 on June 18, 2013, 20:26 GMT

It's time to get rid of Ishant Sharma once and for all. In Zaheer's absence, he should be the leader of the pack. Instead he still bowls like a rookie!! Shami Ahmed is a much better bowler than Ishant. Pathan and Vinay have had plenty of chances. We should try young bowlers like Mohit Sharma, Sandeep Sharma, Sid Kaul to build bench strength. It may not be a bad idea to rest Ashwin and give a chance to Parvez Rasool. That this lad has talent. Selectors did a good job of keeping out non-performers like Sehwag, Gambhir, 10dulkar and Bhajji.

  • on June 18, 2013, 19:38 GMT

What about Pujara? Why are they ignoring him?

  • on June 18, 2013, 18:16 GMT

I would love to see Yuvraj too in this squad...Just imagine two all rounders jadeja n yuvi sharing the middle overs...dont forget that yuvi's overs were crucial in last world cup. selectors should rotate the team...guys like sidharth trivedi, ambatti rayidu, mohit sharma etc deserves the indian cap.....

dont put aside pujara as a test player...he is an amazing, talented cricketer

  • Vkarthik on June 18, 2013, 18:07 GMT

Shami, Pujara should have been picked.

  • stalefresh on June 18, 2013, 16:59 GMT

THIS IS A GOOD TEAM. There should be no place in the team for slow fielders and horrible running between experts like Sehwag and Gambhir. Only 2 things left to cover: a) I still think India are short of a quality fast bowler b) Yuvraj Singh is a ODI specialist and maybe his experience will come in handy for 2015 cup.

  • Pilotprem on June 18, 2013, 16:56 GMT

Very fine selection by MR Sandeep Patil & team , lets not go bashing Mr Vijay without giving chance in the middle

Vijay & dhawan opened in practice match scored same 18 runs in 2 matches , but Dhawan being left hander hold the slot & perfomed admirably where as Vijay was pushed to accomodate Rohit who scored only 5 runs in 2 practice matches & lost the Slot to Karthick , on seeing Both Dhawan & Rohit scoring in Main match , we can easily say Vijay too could have perfomed if he was in the team , more over in second practice match he was wrongly adjudged LBW ,

Same bashing came for Him during his test return , he thought otherwise , same can happen soon , comen VIJAY

  • satyat on June 18, 2013, 15:59 GMT

I think this is precisely where the selectors are making mistakes. We should now rotate the players, as these are tired and I am pretty sure we will not see as good a performance in West Indies as we have been seeing in Champions Trophy. We have enough bench strength to create another good team which can win tournaments.

  • pinn on June 18, 2013, 14:49 GMT

Good balanced team. Picking the same 15 is fine, but at least change (rotate) the playing 11.

It is too early to say for 2015, common another 2 good years to go and 2 more IPLs. By the amount of workload these guys have, few will worn out and few other fresh legs will be there by that time.

Anyway, Dhoni knows the job is not done. Let the men-in-blue complete the CT first !

  • ProdigyA on June 18, 2013, 14:28 GMT

Its a good team but I think we need to have a solid opener as backup, as one of the poster rightly said, you never know with Rohit when he will slip into slumber. Another back for middle order and possible replacement for Raina, as he is still struggling with the short pitch balls, Manoj Tiwary can be the ideal fit, great batsman, fielder and also can deliver with his spin. Finally, pace attack. Sooo disappointed with Ishant. In the absense of Zaheer, he should have been the leader of the attack with all his experience, but still keeps going for plenty of runs. Also Umesh is a great prospect, but needs to get better with his economy, its terrible.

India is blessed with such talents. We are the best team when it comes to batting technique. Its pleasure to watch Kohli, Pujara, Rohit and even Dhawan play with such a class and Dhoni, Raina defining their own class. We are blamed with all the negetives of IPL but look, we are the best team to watch bat with elegance! No Aus, No Eng and No SA. period.

  • ImpressiveTeer on June 18, 2013, 12:53 GMT

Gautam Gambhir should be part of 2015 plan. We won 2011 WC because of him. All the hard work along the way would have made no sense if we failed on D-day. He showed immense composure and responsibility to steer the innings. I don't expect him to be in the side for his prev achiements, but the potential he has - the hard-working dedicated player he is. He deserves a spot in the playing 11. It would be very dis-respectful to a player who helped India acheive their world-cup dream.

  • on June 18, 2013, 12:39 GMT

It is important the team continues in its hunger for success. Been one of standard issues with the Indian teams. The hunger seems to die out with a few series wins. Twas the case with THE 2 tours of Eng & Aus. The standard maintained should be that of the past Australian Team. The new seniors of the team Dhoni, Raina, Ashwin, Kohli they should be the ones to lead the way. Boredom can creep in every now & then. Just go the R Ponting way. Shut out from cricket for a week or 2 and then come back refreshed & re-energized. This was the hallmark of That Australian Team.

I believe selectors should have done away with Vijay. He hasnt had much runs in the Ranji as well. Apart from a ton in the Irani trophy and couple of centuries against australia on low and slow turners he hasnt doen much in the last one year. He has been found wanting in fast and bouncy pitches against quality pace. He is one of the best openers in Indian conditions but not outside India. Looking at the 2015 world cup it would be wise to bring in someone like Unmukt Chand and groom him as a backup opener. The guy already has a taste of Australian conditions and looked at home on the fast nippy surfaces in Townsville. And if selectors have to go for experience Gambhir is any day better opener than Vijay in ODIs.

  • on June 18, 2013, 10:15 GMT

I think more than individual players, it is important to get the combination and core team in place. There is no point in chopping heads for a few failures. It is important to persist with talents. Of course, there may be limits, but this gives people confidence. After initial bang, Yuvi fizzed out and it was Ganguly who kept backing the youngster and he came good in a few years (though his best phase began after 2007). Similarly Bhajji went for 3/78 v Aussies in 1998. Ganguly kept backing him. . . he produced results. There may be bad days here and there but its important to have a core team in place.

First all we should all support the Indian team inspite of the happenings in India after IPL the team done a wonderful job by focusing only on their job. Hats off to the boys and especially to MSD the way he handled the media. We should keep the same squad for atleast next two or three series to come to a conclusion for the World cup 2015

Its a gud selection but I don't know y u ppls are talking about yuvi to be included.... first he should regain his fitness n I think by that time he will gave his retirement:)

  • on June 18, 2013, 7:42 GMT

It is fair enough that we have to wait some more matches to judge them as a team, but it is not India's fault that South Africa is without steyn smith and kallis and it is not our fault that pakistan batsmn is out of form all other teams are very good teams and India is the team playing withoust most senior and superb players like Sachin, Viru, Gauti, Yuvi, Zak, Bhajii and all which our new players have taken their place is doing the work nicely the more they play together the more better they will be. I am verry please with the form of rohit and hope he converts his fifties into hundreds, bowling is also improving but a slight consern on the death bowling...fielding is also improving nicely ...all in all it is good signs for Indian cricket.......

  • D-Ascendant on June 18, 2013, 7:15 GMT

Please drop Jadeja. Despite the flattering performances of late, he is a touch below international class, and will inevitably get found out when the going gets tough.

  • ArmaanSingh on June 18, 2013, 7:03 GMT

Everybody is praising Indian team..and why not they doing great job in CT..BUT BUT BUT...please wait for some more matches before giving final judgement...They won against SA where no Dale Styn, Graeme Smith and Kallis...They defeated PAK where batsmen are completely out of form..It will be interesting to see when India face team like England, where they need to chase 300+ target or batting first India will loose 30/2.... No clue why people talking too much about Murali Vijay, Rihane etc, Sehwag, Gauti......there are some other important issues to be taken care very soon.....First what if Dhoni injured and some body needs to lead India...Second Ishant/Umesh still needs to prove more and be consistent. On and off performance is not going to help much..Third, Why Kohli is given ball in every match where Raina has better record in bowling...Finally, Dhoni can come up on batting order before Raina/Jadeja..That will help in situation where India quickly loose 2,3 quick wickets..

  • on June 18, 2013, 6:40 GMT

  • Vi-sh on June 18, 2013, 5:44 GMT

People talk about Rohit Sharma and inconsistency all the time ...one thing they keep forgetting is his Class....that's what is keeping in the team...this guy has scored more than 2000 runs in ODI cricket now living with this reputation...the latest move to send him as an opener will help him...he get's lot of time...this is a master move by a champion captain....This squad is very balanced but would like to see couple of changes in near future

-> YuvRaj Singh for Murali Vijay ->Cheteshwar Pujara . Sad to see Pujara not being considered for ODI cricket. He would give a solid platform for our powerful batting to explode.Dhoni has to find a way to bring Pujara in the team.

  • PeterJerome on June 18, 2013, 5:43 GMT

@ Sarav Babu. I think we have to check our own info credibility 1st mate. At present Pujara and some other talented bunch of cricketers are picked for the India A team touring to SA. He is not in the squad bcos of the clash in dates. Plz read thru cricinfo archives b4 commenting. People earn greatness not for nothing. So respect great men & think b4 you speak.

  • on June 18, 2013, 5:33 GMT

if a team wins every one in the team should get benefit does not matter if one fails and other delivers. That way each individual in the team will play as a team and not for the individual milestone. I hope captain coach and selector are thinking in the same way.

  • on June 18, 2013, 5:30 GMT

Very very dissapointed with Rahane not being picked , How many times has he been ignored? This is a good chance to have him in the squad ahead of M Vijay and give him some playing time. Should have used the Tri series as an opportunity to give a few guys a decent run. Also, I'm sure the likes of Shami Ahmed and a few others could be ahead of Vinay!

  • on June 18, 2013, 5:17 GMT

Murali Vijay clicks sometimes but spoils the entire game many times. It seems Dhoni is interested in retaining him, Dhoni's credibility has to be checked. Why Dhoni not bringing Pujara, he is a consistent player like Kohli in the team.

  • Gozunder on June 18, 2013, 5:10 GMT

Sad to read comments about Rohit Sharma and his inconsistency. All this even after MI won this year's IPL under Rohit Sharma's captaincy. That, and his elevation to the openers slot has allowed him to express himself, and should keep him going for the next few years. For my money, Rohit Sharma needs to make it to the test side as India's no. 6 batsman, and I'm sure the selectors are thinking about it. Plays the short ball really well, and has fluid brilliance in his stroke play. This is one guy to watch out for in future!

  • naren1983 on June 18, 2013, 4:29 GMT

Don't know still why Murali Vijay is been retained in the team, its the best time for BCCI to groom players for WC 2015. Surely, vijay is not going to be considered as opener in Australia, then why wasting time on him. Bring Pujara, he is going to be another consistent player like Kohli in the team. Then in future, we will see Pujara & Kohli as another Amla & Kallis. We will have to wait & see about Rohit consistency, Dhoni & BCCI has tremendous hope on him, it is going to be critical for Rohit career in next few serious, otherwise pujara will pluck his place for sure. Waiting to see Pujara classics like Dhawan is doing it now.

  • gmadhan_raj on June 18, 2013, 3:59 GMT

Very Good decision by BCCI. Good to see new and young faces in the team, and that too when they have been given another chance means BCCI encourages team confident. Sure this team will gain more experience while touring WI. Likewise if BCCI concentrate on Test cricket, then surely India will retain their no. 1 spot soon. More importantly BCCI should check their IPL issues and should come up clean next year. I am very much worry about every year's IPL. Because each year they come up with new scandals. IPL is spoiling Indian sport as a whole.

  • on June 18, 2013, 3:59 GMT

@sandybanglore - u still want Gambhir. The fact is he was exposed overseas, and he kept getting out to the same ball over and over again. his old flaws out side off stump came back to haunt him for the last 2 years. Stick with vijay, he has good temperament. Pujara I feel will do well in ODI's, but should be reserved for tests, as India already has a shortage of proven test batsmen. Pujara to me should do well outside India.

  • KannanAnanya on June 18, 2013, 3:57 GMT

It would have been a shade good... if one more youngster - Jaydev Unadkat chosen in the place of tried and tested and oft failed Irfan Pathan. Also, Pujara / Rahane in the place of Murali Vijai leaving Vijay concentrate on his test batting skills so as to be prepared in South Africa. Especially, both Rahane and Pujara showed good skills in IPL. But, Pathan is not a good choice in West Indies....

  • channabrar on June 18, 2013, 3:23 GMT

if we are looking for 2015 WC so we are giving chances to young openers, bowlers and young batsman, then y we r not trying a young captain if unfortunately MSD will not b available that time how a new captain can handle the pressure of WC match i think dhoni should be rested for WI tour, when karthik is there and virat kohli should lead the team.

  • on June 18, 2013, 3:21 GMT

Agreed with the team by desiboys454 but i would like to see Gambhir back in team so that our opening will be much better... as we know that rohit sharma fires for few match and just keeps getting out as he did in IPL 6. if WC15 is in mind then Gambhir, yuvi, pujara,m tiwary should be given chance and in bowler we could have included mohit sharma. May be these players must be given chance against zim.

  • on June 18, 2013, 3:20 GMT

This is the best decision the Indian selectors has done so far... Good to groom a young side to WC 15.... Proud of you guys..keep going..........All the very best!!!!

  • on June 18, 2013, 3:03 GMT

Puajara should have been in the squad. He is one the way to be like Manoj Tiwary. For others like, Yuvraj, Sehwag, Gambhir, its understandable but why Murali Vijay has been kept is a mystery to me. Lets not tamper with the opening combination but Pujara should be given a chance. He will serve you better than Raina in all conditions. Raina is one of the most luckiest players to have played 150 matches by playing on Domestic pitches tailor made for his kind of batting. Even if you see his domestic records, its disappointing and around 40's which is lowest amongst the other batsmen.

  • daalien on June 18, 2013, 2:56 GMT

timohyj: cause zaheer cannot field squat, and there is nowhere in the field to hide a lazy bum like him. And he breaks down easily and just bowling 2 five-over spells for money is one thing, bowling 10 overs and fielding for 50 overs for much less money is another thing. I would say good riddance to Zaheer. He can come back in tests, and that too if he improves his physical fitness and takes fielding and batting more seriously than what he has shown lately.

  • Siva_Bala75 on June 18, 2013, 2:12 GMT

Vijay was given an opportunity in the test series against Australia. He outscored Pujara, Dhoni and Kohli- in fact all; he was the top scorer in that series. He is yet to be tried now again in ODIs. Dhoni prefers Rohit Sharma who is not doing a bad job either. I like Rahane too but then looks like India has a problem of plenty now! Anyway, I am happy to see Dhoni making the call because he has taken the responsibility.

  • Bakht.Khan on June 18, 2013, 2:08 GMT

I'm happy to see that Cheteshwar Pujara is not being sent to the W. Indies for a meaningless ODI series. In any case, he's got a very dodgy knee and he was hobbling around during the Australia series. Much better to send him to SA.

From a workload management standpoint, they could've rested MSD and Kohli. If ICC and BCCI are going to persist with this torturous cricket calendar, it would be best for the selection committee to create a rotation policy or create separate teams for the different formats.

To that end, Vijay should be seen as a Test opener. He's not a limited overs guy, and shouldn't be played in the ODIs.

  • sumitsinha_20 on June 18, 2013, 1:33 GMT

No awkward foreign tests then just the preferred format.

  • joe_antony on June 17, 2013, 23:33 GMT

I am not convinced with the bowling side still. Its lacking the teeth. We need top notch talent in bowling to defend the WC. This will take some strong fast bowling and technically accurate spin bowling, both we don't have. I would have given Vinay, mishra a chance against pakistan. Ashwin was below par, you need to give more opportunities to people like Rahul sharma and give pressure to Ashwin. Ashwin was playing well when he has to earn his position sidelining Bhajji, since his place is kinda reserved he is now lethargic. We need some serious improvements in bowling.

  • on June 17, 2013, 22:06 GMT

Agree that MSD should be given a break for this not so important tri-series. DK does the keeping at last. Viraat Kohli takes on the "Skipper's" role. Vijay should have been replaced by Manoj Tiwari, since Rohit is opening. Ajinka Rahane & Unmukt Chand should have been given a chance in the 15 for overseas experience with the senior team. Pujara for now should be left for Test cricket. Ishant should have been dropped & instead Mohit Sharma given a place in the 15 as he has been a very consistent wicket taking bowler during the IPL.

My Team : 1) Shikhar, 2)Rohit, 3) DK, 4) Viraat, 5) Raina, 6) Jadeja, 7) Ashwin, 8) Vinay Kumar 9) B. Kumar, 10) Mishra 11) Umesh Jadav. In case extra batsmen required, team can replace Mishra with 12) Manoj Tiwari or 13) Rahane. Then 14) Unmukt & 15) Mohit Sharma.

no changes as expected .... but I would have loved to see Pujara in the squad in place of either Irfan or Vinay .... In Australia, where the next WC will be held, Ind will need players such as Pujara. Pujara is comfortable playing both spin and pace, and can do well on a variety of surfaces. The sooner Ind makes him a part of the ODI set up, the better!

  • bbnn on June 17, 2013, 21:31 GMT

Still he is a waste according to yo?just add all his scores that will be his average in this series.

@MaruthuDelft: You definitely seem to one from TN, appreciating Vijay and at the same time bashing Yuvraj who at least got India a WC after 28years. No wonder indian's have short memory issues and you being another CSK fan. By the way, I'm not a big fan of Yuvi(attitude) or Dhoni(lacks test batting skills) but at the same time, they are talented in many ways. Dhoni is a great captain. Yuvi is a match winner on his day. Luckily Dhoni represents CSK. Wonder how many times you've scored centum in maths all your schooling.

  • desiboy454 on June 17, 2013, 18:52 GMT

Good Squad, but afew changes are needed. I feel some of the players should have been given rest, as we will be having a busy time from september onwards. Changes to the current squad would be M. Vijay and I. Sharma. I dont think vijay should be in t20/odi when we now are giving rohit a go and I. Sharma should not be wearing any indian colors. My XI: 1. Rohit 2. Dhawan 3. Pujara 4. DK (wicket keeper) 5. M. Tiwari 6. Raina (Captian) 7. Jadeja 8. Ik Phatan 9. A. Mishra 10. B. Kumar 11. Zaheer Khan.. I feel MSD, Virat, Ashwin need a break, they play all year round and a bogus tri series is a time to test some others out. Reason for Zaheer is because we need him in SA tests, so this is a good time to test him. I would prefer Pujara as captain but since it would be his debut series I think we shouldnt pressure him. but since this is not happening I say try MSD sit a couple games out. 1. rohit 2. dhawan 3. virat 4. DK (keeper) 5. Raina 6. Vjay 7. Jadeja 8. Phatan 9. Mishra 10. Kumar 11 vinay

  • chuckmeister on June 17, 2013, 17:34 GMT

Why is Pujara not in the team? amazing that Vijay keeps getting into the team based on a few good knocks in the ipl where as Pujara who is one of the best openers going around keeps getting overlooked.

  • on June 17, 2013, 17:30 GMT

Having players like Rahane, M Tiwary, Pujara, Rayudu, Gambhir & Yuvi on the bench speaks volumes about depth of Indian batting. They would probably make it to any international 11 in the world at the moment. Seems like a decent outfit for WC '15.

  • phunny_game on June 17, 2013, 16:53 GMT

A good reward for the players... Even those who are not making it to the current 11. But i gues in WI, people like M.Vijay, Amit Mishra, should be tried while resting some regulars. For Zim tour, Dhoni, Raina, Ashwin, Ishant can be rested and Rahane and Pujara can be included along with a Fast Bowler. We have seen the bench strength become regulars in CT13... Now time to build a bench strength for this young team as well.

  • godfreyse on June 17, 2013, 16:43 GMT

  • MaruthuDelft on June 17, 2013, 16:13 GMT

Vijay has massive potential to play an ODI or T20 knock to take a match away from opponents but obviously people don't like him for his unimpressive personality and funny attempts to mimic other's styles. Pujara is the opposite; he doesn't have the technique to be explosive. Yuvraj is lucky to be seen as the WC 2011 hero; he may be talented but never had the temperament to be really good. So don't whinge.

There is never enought to satisfy Indian fan community. I think the selectors did a splendid job in sending the current squad to CT. kudo to selectors. Rahane did not look convincing at all and any one who can see cricket can identify that. Shami Ahmed would have been better but Varun Aroon is too fragile at the moment so Ishant is a better fit than him.

I don't know why everyone are against Murali Vijay. He is the only player who had back to back centuries in recently concluded Border Gavaskar test series. He is capable of big innings and he just lost his sublime touch.

  • SmartSAN on June 17, 2013, 14:47 GMT

@ lakjak. I belive you forgot the performance of Viru's and Gauti's performance after Worldcup. Rohit is much better than these two. Contribution matters not count.

  • Unmesh_cric on June 17, 2013, 14:45 GMT

@lakjak, Rohit Sharma has been doing very well as an opener. He has scored 3 fifties in 5 games as an opener..and you call this a failure? It appears, according to you, if an opener doesn't score a century, it's a failure. In this series, Rohit has been involved in 2 consecutive century partnerships with Dhawan. This has happened first time in Indian cricket since 2007. And you call him a failure! I agree Rohit deserved to be dropped when he was playing in the middle order. But now, as an opener, he is doing really well. Give the credit when its due, mate. By the way, I agree with a lot of other comments. Pujara deserved to be picked ahead of Vijay as a reserve opener.

  • on June 17, 2013, 14:37 GMT

If people judge the players on the basis of their IPL form, the players who perform badly in international cricket should never be dropped.Cheteshwar Pujara,Manoj Tiwary,Irfan Pathan,Ishant Sharma never performed consistently in IPL.But they still play well at international level. Then why can't vijay. We didn't provide him proper exposure at international level. He has ability, talent. He just need to convert them into performances.Even he performed so well in Indo-Oz test series.Every batsman performed well in only 1-2 innings. He did it well more than them. But, yet people keep him demoralising and criticising. There are several players who perform well in IPL but when given a chance, they fail.Would you believe, yuvraj has scored just 6 fifties in IPL?

  • on June 17, 2013, 14:32 GMT

C.Pujara, his average of all 3 formats are about 60, he is well qualified for ODI. I don`t understand why he is ignored by selection committee and sports fan.

Cheteswar Pujara is more deserving compared to Murali Vijay? But, how do you drop M Vijay without giving him a chance?

  • shripadk on June 17, 2013, 14:16 GMT

@Sudhir Kotalwar Why? Lot of players in this team have come in the team after long time or coming back from injury ( Karthik, Dhawan, Mishra after long break from international ODI squad, Yadav from injury etc). It would be unfair to drop any of them to give bench strength a chance. They will get their chance when one of these players is not available or rested down the line. India will most likely send a depleted squad to Zimbabwe. They can be tested then. The only player whose place in the squad is in real question is Vijay. He is lucky to be on the WI tour and at most Rahane should have been given a chance in his place. But other than him, rest all are doing well. You do not mess with the team. Specially team like India.

Look how much rotation has helped likes of Australia and England in ODI? It has not.

  • lakjak on June 17, 2013, 14:04 GMT

Wonder why Rohit Sharma is getting so many chances in spite of his repeated failures in one day international. Even in this tournament he has not scored a century even after opening the innings.

Manoj Tiwary could be the most unlucky guy. The last time he played, he scored a century for India and still cannot find a place in the team. How many teams in the world can afford that. Once or twice when there was place, he got injured and again it was Rohit. Poor chap, feel so sorry for him.

  • kahvas on June 17, 2013, 13:35 GMT

What is Raina doing in England and WI? He is very uncomfortable facing short pitch deliveries and is always on edge. Just look at his dismissals in this series. Yuvi should have been in this squad, he plays short pitch stuff effectively. Plus, I understand Sehwag's career is over, but Gambhir is a match winner. Gambhir is more needed at 3 or 4 then as an opener. He provides stability at 3 or 4. Remember WC.

  • on June 17, 2013, 13:23 GMT

I agree with the selectors that a winning combination does not need to be changed and thus overall this is a good move. Having said that, winning should not be used as an excuse to overlook the performance of fast bowlers (Yadav and Ishant) which is frankly poor. Yadav is fast but erratic and the less said about Ishant the better. We have good bowling options in Zaheer (who can play in 2015), Shami Ahmad, Varun Aaron, IC Pandey, Praveen Kumar among others. I think it is just prudent to explore and tap into these bowling resources instead of sticking to the Yadav/Ishant pair which frankly is hopeless & would not make it in to any other team. Use Irfan as a batting allrounder in place of one of these two (better fielder, far better batsman, and cant do worse in bowling - how worse can anyone do when your "strike bowlers" have an economy of 6.5...)...

Benched after just two warm_up games doesn't mean Vijay is not good. It is because MSD wanted some change and confidence in Sharma he was asked to open. Nothing wrong in it. Hope the team wins the CT and the tri-series Good Luck Team India Kashinath

No need of Mishra in squad.. Better Manoj Tiwary should get a chance..

  • msdhoni123 on June 17, 2013, 12:50 GMT

seriously what is BCCI doing. Do they think these players are robots and work constantly without stopping. I especially feel sorry for Kohli, Dhoni,Jadeja and Ashwin. Who has been constantly playing cricket since November. They were involved in England test series, then pakistan odi series, england odi series ,Australia test series,IPL,champions trophy and now this. They seriously need some rest or they going to fatigue. Should have handed the captaincy to Raina and called back Gambhir and Yuvi and give them a last chance to perform. Plus should have called in some young talents like Karan Sharma, Varun Aaron. My biggest worry is because players are constantly playing cricket they going to burn out by the South African Series. BCCI please sort it out.

  • BShankarN on June 17, 2013, 12:49 GMT

Its a pity that C.Pujara has not yet got a go in the ODIs. M.Vijay has got real talent, but, I think, he has got reasonable opportunities. This Indian top order has got real flair, elegance, dominance and character. The Indian youth has really grown a big mustache.

  • on June 17, 2013, 12:46 GMT

Team is winning at the moment... that is good.... but this is not at all settled batting order for many reasons !!! you cant rely on Rohit Sharma as an opener for long... so need Sehwag ( in full form obviously and fully backed up by captain and selectors) back in line up ASAP... he will be trump card for Indian chances at world cup 2015.... Pujara needs to be in team at first down... sooner he comes better it is for team India... also needs to bring Yuvi in middle ASAP... he is a match winning material for sure... Ashwin is very one dimensional bowler... plus players around the world reading him with much ease... so bring back bhajji and again make sure captain backs him up fully and give him that confidence that Ganguly gave him once and made him a world class player.... Now dnt know what is that special thing that Murali and Vinay Kumar offering MSD... certainly they are not offering anything to Team India... Shami Ahmed shud replace Vinay and this will be settled TEAM INDIA !!!!

  • realfan on June 17, 2013, 12:42 GMT

  • ramli on June 17, 2013, 12:27 GMT

Replacing Vijay with Rahane ... so what? Rahane will continue to sit instead of Vijay ... that is all ... let Vijay sit for a while ... and then .. he will also be eased out when the team finds another sitter???

  • ramli on June 17, 2013, 12:23 GMT

What has Rahane done exceptionally after his failures, to get into the team? When he was in prime form, he was kept on the bench by SRT ... when he finally got some chances (both in ODIs and tests in India) he failed to capitalize ... on the other hand Vijay impressed one-and-all in tests, got into the ODI team as a specialist opener and still not able to get into the playing XI ... that is the level of competition we have now ... and when this team is winning ... why change?

  • on June 17, 2013, 12:20 GMT

It s an elegant move by indian selectors by picking young lads over the likes of outdated seniors..indian selectors are having faith in Vijay ...hope he keeps up to their trust.........This is probably the best selecting panel india has ever had..and bringing new faces will surely be gud for indian future

  • aryang231 on June 17, 2013, 12:14 GMT

I think murali vijay shouldn't be there there should be gauti or yuvi in place of murali they should have been given the chance they can't get retired in 31 years of playing age. And also murali is not in great form if v keep the warm-up mtchs aside he has not played a game yet in champions trophy and also got failed in those warm-up games, and his record in west indies is also not good. Gauti and Yuvi are experienced players. And i think in place of mishra there should be zaheer he will be useful in west indies' condition. And we can't take amit mishra as the future of indian team he is over 33 yrs of age. So it's better to get an xperienced bowler into the team. Decision of not taking sehwag and hrbhjn is good bcause they are out of form i think they should get some of form in domestic cricket and then get back into the team. And in place of vinay or umesh there would've been a new young bowler like shami ahmed. Umes gets wckts but also get xpensive his avrge of over 46 tell it all.

  • on June 17, 2013, 12:07 GMT

India should have selected Mohit Sharma in place of Vinay kumar . Further , Umesh needs to be taught how to change his line of attack in ODIs . Overall , the team selection is good .

  • on June 17, 2013, 12:05 GMT

Team India is becoming an aggresive in both batting and bowling formats.its been a while tm india had faced a lot to push an aggresive in bowling situation.i feel fielding factors has improved a lot in india's current position.tm players has turnover in batting.we got many passionate cricketers for our country.hope dis tm cud bring a lot of expections in future matches.

  • on June 17, 2013, 12:02 GMT

I agree with who are all hate Murali Vijay's selection. There is should be justification towards selection for a particular player, but in this case the selectors are persist not to disturb the winning team combination. Purely Irani cup performance rewarded him a place in the Indian team. There are times when indian team lacked potential players for particular position now the tag has been broken, there is flexibility in the team that is something special I enjoy with these bunch. There are Pujara's, Rahen's, Unmukth Chand, etc plenty of talents waiting in the wings and also some senior players are all vowing to come back. In this context i would like the opportunities to be shared equally rather than arresting for particular players. MSD proved to be world leader by perfectly judging middle order slot to DK to make shift Rohit as an opener. We want to see more professionalism and more victory from this bunch with slightly change in the selection in order to keep winning momenturm.

  • AlbertPintoGussaHua on June 17, 2013, 12:00 GMT

Can't figure out what . Vijay and Vinay Kumar are still doing in the team. They ought to be replaced with C. Pujara and Mohit Sharma. Now that'll be a team to contend with. Some people feel that Pujara is not suited to play ODI's. The same was said about Dravid till he became the backbone of the Indian team. Remember WC 2003 when Dravid and Yuvi brought India home against a rampaging Akhtar and Akram. Give Cheteshwar a chance now. You need a grafter like him to lend balance to a team full of big hitters (Dhawan, Kohli, Raina, Dhoni, Jadeja).

  • Cricket24 on June 17, 2013, 11:56 GMT

@siddhartha87- Dinish Karthik has shown he can bat better than Gautam Gambhir with back to back to back (I think) centuries

  • ramli on June 17, 2013, 11:53 GMT

sandy_bangalore ... you are at least 6-12 months behind time ... GG failed not in 2-3 matches but in the past 1-2 years ... Bhajji has been tried and dusted forever now ... mere performances in IPL may work for a rookie (like YP, RJ, etc.) but not for GG ... he has to prove it in bigger and lengthier matches (like Duleep, Ranji, etc.)

  • bluebillion on June 17, 2013, 11:50 GMT

The only change I can think of is Pujara for Vijay but this is a good squad. Nice to see a settled look in the team.

  • on June 17, 2013, 11:49 GMT

Why Yuvraj is being ignored. He is very good all rounder. Harbhajan is also in good form.

  • mgr125128 on June 17, 2013, 11:49 GMT

It is good move by India. I still feel that a couple of more changes would be great keeping in mind 2015 Worldcup. We need another opener instead of Vijay in ODI ( Vijay is great for tests). Perhaps like Rohit .Rahane should be tried as opener..as i feel he is good to handle short stuff....and will score at reasonable pace as well while providing stability. Instead of Ishant and Vinay , we need an accurate bowler......preferably with decent pace......but someone who can hit a quickfire 20-25 if needed. Bowlers like Kaul, Pankaj singh and others need to be tried out with view to get decent bowling attack. Rayudu is also a good utility player who should be considered as backup in case middle order someone is injured or fails in long term.

  • secondopinion on June 17, 2013, 11:40 GMT

Continuing with Irfan Pathan and Murali Vijay is not the best decisions, when players like Pujara, Rehane, Sami are around. India's pace attack still looks weak, Ishant Sharma refuses to mature or get nippy and Umesh Yadav is too up and down stuff with few variations. A leftie like Kulkarni will be a great addition.

  • on June 17, 2013, 11:37 GMT

  • siddhartha87 on June 17, 2013, 11:35 GMT

There is no reason to stick to failed seniors like Yuvi and Harbhajan when you have exciting young talents like Dhawan and Jadeja.Gambhir may be a big failure in tests but he is still good for ODIs. I think Dinesh Kartik is a waste. That guy is not good enough to play in top 6.Gambhir at no 4 would be a very good option in my honest opinion.

  • CricketChat on June 17, 2013, 11:32 GMT

Right decision given the success enjoyed by Ind team in CT thus far. I wish selectors had selected new players in place of Vijay and Vinay to tour along and get a feel for the int level. Don't see if any of the bench warmers thus far in CT (Irfan, Mishra, Vijay and Vinay) getting a game unless some gets injured or games become inconsequential.

  • on June 17, 2013, 11:27 GMT

Vijay may be out of form but Pujara is not great for ODI. Zak is injury prone as seen in IPL6 and vinay is a better standby. Varun Aron could be tried.Rahane is good in IPL but when ever tried in Indian team he failed

  • on June 17, 2013, 11:25 GMT

Karan Sharma could have been included and he has excellent potentialities. I hope they will include him in India A at least. The problem with BCCI is that unlike Australia and Sri Lanka it does not arrange regular and frequent India A tours.

  • Sakthiivel on June 17, 2013, 11:24 GMT

Fell Sorry for Sehwag, Bhaji, Zak supporters. But looking at the 2015 WC this is good preparation. Only MSD a Senior player in 30's, this young side can groom well before world cup. Best of luck.

  • dakshinap on June 17, 2013, 11:24 GMT

Pujara & Shami Ahmed should be include instead of Vijay & Ishant, because Vijay is always struggling in the overseas condition and Ishant had no pace. Shami Ahmed have decent pace along with very accurate line & length.

  • Venkat_Gowrishankar on June 17, 2013, 11:22 GMT

Ah, They should have given a chance to Mohit Sharma in place of Vinay Kumar.

  • IndianCoolGuy on June 17, 2013, 11:20 GMT

@Ravi Prakash Rajput: So you wanted to drop 2 bowlers and replace them with 2 batsmen? great imagination. If you have forgotten, I Pathan was the MOM in his last ODI he played. He is the best genuine allrounder available for India. He is far better bowler than Ishant and some times Yadav too. but the problem is he is not getting chances regularly. I prefer Murali vijay should be dropped for Pujara. there is no place for Rahane though he is a great player. Never know if Rohit sharma fails again, then probably we can choose Rahane.

  • robin41284 on June 17, 2013, 11:20 GMT

In My Opinion, The perfect playing squad could be: "DHAWAN, RAHANE, KOHLI, D KARTHIK, YUVRAJ, RAINA, DHONI, IRFAN PATHAN, MANOJ TIWARY, RAVINDRA JADEJA, R ASHWIN, BHUBANESHWAR KUMAR, UMESH YADAV, VARUN AARON." When ever V.AARON as a fast bowler && MANOJ TIWARY as a batsman got the chance in playing 11, they performed more than 100%, when it comes to economical wicket taking spells or making centuries respectively. Really surprised to see how the player likes of Rohit Sharma & Ishant Sharma are getting hundred of chances, even by showing tremendous continuity in flop shows. Making 2 fifties in 2 years does not make any good sense of selection for a batsman being into playing 11. Rohit, U'r the most undeserving one.

  • praneetbhat on June 17, 2013, 11:19 GMT

Why no Manoj Tiwary in adn Why M Vijay still in Team..? Yadav should be replaced by Awana or Shami.. Wrong selection, as Dhoni kept all who close to him irrespective of performance.. Still selection committee is just namesake and selection is not on basis of performance.. Also need to give bench players opportunity to play and this will help to have strong back up players.. Who will teach BCCI..?

  • Senthil.Nathan on June 17, 2013, 11:19 GMT

M Vijay's inclusion couldn't justify at all. He made just 2 centuries against Australia in india. In his whole international career (lot of chances) that are the only runs but if we look at his failures - it goes uncountable

  • hrit on June 17, 2013, 11:16 GMT

I don't get the buzz why people are criticizing this team. Selectors are looking forward to the WC 2015 and it is only a 15 member squad. You cant include every budding talent into this 15 and that is the harsh part but we have to go on with it. A team must be blended with experience and talent and that is what this Indian team is all about. Right now, 4 players are in 15 , decent form but not a break into XI.

  • tambolisamir on June 17, 2013, 11:12 GMT

  • realfan on June 17, 2013, 11:12 GMT

guys please stop pujara pujara thing again...... i like him, and i too want to see him play... but india right now needs a back bone in TEST team, and PUJARA is THE BACK BONE.....we don't want to destroy his test performance by including him in ODI..i am not saying he wont perform in ODI , but ODI doesn't deserve player like PUJARA... he is a class apart from all the ODI players in the squad........ i want him to be played as a pure test batsman..... more over he is injury prone, he just came back from injury in mid of IPL..... and we want him to be fully fit for SA tour.....and he will be heading to SA along with INDIA A..... so give him enough time....

  • Nppinte on June 17, 2013, 11:07 GMT

Good team for WI. I am worried about the pace dept though. There are 3 swing bowlers- Bhuvi, Vinay, Irfan, one quick in Umesh who also skids it through and one who should hit the deck in Ishant. Would love to see 1 less swing and one more hit the deck bowler if the 2015 WC is the target.

On the batting- would be nice to see Pujara in there somewhere. As for Vijay I would first give him a few chances to play in the 11 before calling for his head. Rather unfair not to and still question his place in the team.

  • on June 17, 2013, 11:07 GMT

why did they go with vijay n vinay again... must hav brought in pujara and zak missing viru very badlyy :(

  • sandy_bangalore on June 17, 2013, 11:05 GMT

Very disappointed not to see a fighter and a proven performer like Gautam Gambhir in place of M Vijay! And Harbhajan Singh as well.Didnt Gambhir singlehandedly shoulder the batting for KKR in the ipl, after being dropped unfairly just because he didnt click in 2-3 games for India? He has an excellent record and has performed really good overseas. And I guess the selectors were looking the other way when Harbhajan was bowling all those great spells for MI, where he rediscovered his turn and bounce, which makes him the best in the business(unlike a Swann, who has a n offspinner and little else). So its a far from perfect squad, and the selectors just cant freeze out past performers just for the sake of maintaing a so-called 'age balance'

  • on June 17, 2013, 11:05 GMT

I don't know why people are after M Vijay's head. The last international series he played he was the top scorer. While his IPL performances are shabby, it is not an accurate indication of a batsmans form. Take punter for example, in the australian shield games, he was in red hot form, while his form suddenly was poor in the ipl, why? Because ipl is hit and miss. The warm up games are no great indication, he failed in the first game although he got 18 or so. The second game was an umpiring howler. He has been the second choice opener, with viru and gauti ahead of him, for a while now. His first full series, he is the highest scorer. People praised dhawan for his one knock in the Border-gavaskar trophy, while vijay was largely consistent through the series. Dhawan had an Ok ipl but his warm up games were horrible. Selectors kept faith in him and Nohit sharma, and are reaping rich rewards for it. Then, why not M Vijay?

  • Ranta on June 17, 2013, 11:01 GMT

Keep giving youngsters a chance & persist with them. Don't drop any one after few matches.

Keep going forward, don't look back unless some one breaks in on basis of huge performance. Reputation shouldn't count. India has huge talent with goodish heads give them their due chance.

And that is what the selectors are doing. Good work wise men.

Its not just about wining but also the way you play. Good signs for Indian cricket so far.

  • realfan on June 17, 2013, 10:59 GMT

great in a way and disappointing in other way if you look.... good in a way that india is looking to build WC 2015 team.... and disappointing that the likes of RAHANE , ambati raydu are being looked lowly here and the likes of vijay , ishant are being persisted with ..... ishant is OK but what has vijay done??? i am sure vijay record is not as good as RAHANE's in ODI..... and i can assume that the likes of rahane, rayudu ca only dream of making it to india team from here....feel very sad for them..... and also amit mishra wont be a much of use ( he is aged , and wont be getting match ahead of ashwin or jadeja ) ...so why cant try new bowler ( PACER ) to be exact.....

any way all the best... this squad looks good for another 5 years for me.....

  • Raj.cool.Himanshu on June 17, 2013, 10:59 GMT

I think this is a good team overall and it doesn't matter that India will lose or win champions trophy because they have proved that this squad is best. Everyone is performing good in their department. Opening pair is fabulous, in middle order dinesh , kohli, dhoni and jadeja are playing well, in bowling bhuvneshwar, ashwin, jadeja, umesh, ishant were doing their work good. So, overall it is a good team.

Why cant they play the 4th team like NZ or may be Pak team. India has played a lot lot lot with SL in past 3 yrs.. now it has become very boring... Some how the ODI series in WI are not as exciting as they look in other parts of world (India,Pak,Aus,Eng (rain pertaining)) . odd timings... no run feasts.. last time India has sent only juniors in 2011 and they won it ....

Hope we will have some very good cricket.

Can someone tell me ....shud everyteam carry only 15 players? Why not carry Pujara & Rahane to have practice on bouncy wickets to prepare themselves for SA Tour.. getting rid of Sehwag has done wonders to Indian crick in champions trophy. Please dont forget abt Yuvi... Indian team still need 6th bowler. u cant depend on Rohit/Kholi to bowl those 5 overs... We need Yuvi in place of Dinesh karthik in 2015 WC... Rahul, Saurav, Sachin, VVS Laxman, Kumble peaked when they were the same age of Sehwag, Yuvraj, Bhajji, Ghambir, and the latter are staring at the end of their roads. One reason might be because Sehwag, Yuvraj, Bhajji, Ghambir were under the shadows of the greats who shouldered great responsibility...

Rohit, Dhawan, Dinesh Karthik, Jadeja, Ashwin literally robbed them their spots.

New approach, New blood, new mantles to reach, new standards to set, fresh team for the upcoming world cup.

Right on Spot, these selectors have finally gotten rid of the shambles created by the previous selection committee who kept backing the non-performers for a long time... literally since 1999 World Cup... Bold steps with a perfect vision, way to go.

Same team... M ok with that but atleast give chance to the reserve players during the tri-series in the West Indies

Very good and bold step by the selectors. Clearly they are preparing the team for the 2015 WC. Good bye for the seniors and one should not take away the great contributions made by them during their peaks in their careers. No one can maintain their peak form throughout their careers. Give all of them as many number of chances as given to Sachin, they all will play for eternity. Anyway, that's not the point here. India is excellent in fielding, between excellent and very good in batting and between very good and good in bowling. So,they know the areas of improvement and this team if maintains their form and fitness levels can be a team to watch and beat in the world cup 2015.

  • vivekashwin on June 17, 2013, 10:07 GMT

amit mishra should replace by baba aparajith

  • on June 17, 2013, 10:07 GMT

They could've dropped Vijay and opted for Ajinkya Rahane. Otherwise Wonderful team. Selectors must be credited for selecting players who are in form rather than big names.Way to go ! Great show by the team in CT. Having dominated over WI & SL in recent times, this cup is for the taking. Wish great luck team ! Kudos !
