Aronstam stars as Pretoria High School win
Pretoria High School Old Boys 196 (Kuhn 52, Williams 44, Oosthuizen 3-36, de Bruyn 3-41) beat University of Johannesburg 142 (Aronstam 5-30) by 54 runs
Maurice Aronstam took five wickets with his legspin as Pretoria High School Old Boys notched a 54-run win against the University of Johannesburg at SuperSport Park, Centurion, to become the first club since Cricket Unity in 1991 to successfully defend its National Club Championship title. Aronstam took 5 for 30 as the Johannesburg team, chasing a target of 197, was bowled out for 142.
Pretoria High School were propped up by useful contributions from Heino Kuhn, who made 52, and Craig Williams (44). They added 54 for the fourth wicket to lift their team to 116 for 4. However, the rest of the batsmen didn't contribute much, as De Bruyn (3 for 41) and Martin Oosthuizen (3 for 36) restricted them to just 196.
The Johannesburg side began their run-chase well, with a 51-run opening stand between Stephen Cook, the captain, and William Motaung. However, they had no answers to the legspin of Aronstam, who won the Player-of-the-Match award and lifted his wickets tally for the tournament to 16.
Justin Kreusch of East London Police Club collected the Player-of-the-Tournament award.
