HKCA appoints Ryan Campbell as Specialist Batting Coach

The Hong Kong Cricket Association is pleased to announce that Ryan Campbell has been appointed as Specialist Batting Coach for the Hong Kong National team.

The Hong Kong Cricket Association is pleased to announce that Ryan Campbell has been appointed as Specialist Batting Coach for the Hong Kong National team. The appointment will be for a period of 6-12 months.
The 41-year old, who is currently employed as the Head Coach at Kowloon Cricket Club, had an illustrious career with Western Australia as a wicket-keeper and top-order batsman, scoring over six thousands runs at an average of 36.41, with eleven centuries, including a highest score of 203. During his career he played alongside Justin Langer, Adam Gilchrist, Damien Martyn, Tom Moody and Mike Hussey. Campbell also represented Australia in two ODI matches against New Zealand and Sri Lanka.
Commenting on Campbell's appointment, National Coach Charlie Burke said "Ryan will be a huge addition to our squads. It's such a big year for us and it's an exciting time for our Men's and Women's squads to have a coach of Cambo's calibre to help them with their batting. Not only does he bring his international and 1st class experience and discipline but he has a similar coaching ethic that will only make our squads stronger out in the middle."
"Cambo will start working with our Men's squad in preparation for the ICC World T20 Qualifiers as we chase the dream of competing at a senior World Cup. Cambo himself was a very explosive batsmen but also had the knowledge and understanding to read the game and the conditions - something I think will be a huge asset to our squads," added Burke.
This is not the first time that Ryan Campbell has been involved in a coaching role with the HKCA as he came to Hong Kong in a short stint as a guest coach in 2010. Referring to his previous visit, Burke said "It has always been my style to expose our players to a number of different coaches and during that week Cambo was here, the players responded well to him."
This is also not the first time that HKCA is employed a Specialist Batting Coach. Former New Zealand test and ODI player Lou Vincent, was engaged in a similar role in Hong Kong during the 2011-2012 season before returning to New Zealand to continue his First Class career with Auckland. Vincent retired from all cricket at the beginning of 2013.
