Younis Khan left out of Champions Trophy squad

The limited-overs career of Younis Khan, the senior Pakistan batsman, hangs in the balance after he was left out of a 30-man squad for the Champions Trophy to be held in June. The Pakistan board announced the pool of players unexpectedly early, and there had been speculation over Younis' future after a poor one-day series in South Africa earlier this month.

Younis, 35, was among several Pakistan batsmen who floundered in the series which South Africa won 3-2. Younis collected 116 ODIs runs at 23.20 as Pakistan's fragile batting struggled through much of the tour. He has had a difficult ODI run in recent years - his last century came as long back in 2008, and in three of the previous four years he has averaged less than 25.

The other major exclusion from the squad was of 20-year-old left-arm spinner Raza Hasan, who is looking to make his comeback after suffering a spine injury last December. Hasan had made an impact during the World Twenty20 last year, playing in four matches in that campaign.

The experienced allrounder Abdul Razzaq, who hasn't played an ODI since November 2011 continued to be ignored by the national selectors.

The Champions Trophy features the top eight ODI sides in the world, and is scheduled to be held in England in June. Pakistan are in Group B along with India, South Africa and West Indies. All teams have to announce their preliminary squad for the tournament before April 6.

Squad: Nasir Jamshed, Mohammad Hafeez, Imran Farhat, Ahmed Shehzad, Misbah-ul-Haq, Haris Sohail, Asad Shafiq, Umar Akmal, Shoaib Malik, Umer Amin, Sohail Tanvir, Hammad Azam, Azhar Ali, Shahid Afridi, Asad Ali, Anwar Ali, Junaid Khan, Mohammad Irfan, Wahab Riaz, Umar Gul, Rahat Ali, Ehsan Adil, Imran Khan, Aizaz Cheema, Yasir Arafat, Saeed Ajmal, Abdul Rehman, Zulfiqar Babar, Kamran Akmal, Mohammad Rizwan

Sorry to see Younis go, but its time. Afridi & Misbah should go too. Hafeez to captain (sadly theres no one else). Afridi should now only be used for T20s, especially as next world cup is in Bangladesh where we can play 4 spinners. He is no good for ODI in UK. Razzaq is a must for English conditions - silly he is not there. Also in UK conditions we should have just Ajmal as the spinner with Hafeez as back up. Need 3-4 good quicks in the team. Team should be: Shehzad, K Akmal, Jamshed, Shafiq, Hafeez, U. Akmal, Azam/Razzaq, Gul/other right arm quick, Junaid, Ajmal, Irfan

The decision of excluding Yk,is indeed a good one.But I don't know why on earth selectors are not excluding the guy who has taken his last wicket in August2012 and has'nt come good with his batting as well(accept for that one innings of 88).Please,stop selecting him as he is nothing but a wasted player.Mansoor Amjad, the leggy, who is a genuine all-rounder(avg. 88 in one day cup and was amongst the leading wicket takers)should be in the side .

Generally a good selction of 30. Glad Younis is out of ODIs, Razzaq is now history, he is not palying any active cricket now and I'm also happy to see selctors looking at someone new for Kamran's replacemnet in near future, as Rizwan is added although I would still prefer Kamran for CT. Wahab Riaz needs to be in the team, he is the fastet in Pak and couple of bad matches in SA where very few performed should not cost him his place. Time for Ahmed Shezad to to have a long run as opner with Jamshed and Hafeez should move down the order, preferably at # 6 but know he will not accept it. Mansoor Amjad should have been included and much overrated Hammad has not performed to earn a spot.

Yunus is technically more sound player in current squad. i agree he is out form but what is the performance of others so called younger player. he needs sometime to regain his form. keep it up yunus...u will be back. Yunus must be in contention for World cup 2014. only inform yunus can provide stability to pakistan middle order batting line-up.

I am surprised at these exclusions for two reasons: 1) Champions Trophy is in England where ball is going to swing. Younis khan has a very good technique and experience to handle these conditions. He may be scoring slow at times but he makes sure that wickets are not lost in heap and concentrates on holding one side so others around him can be aggressive. Just like Dravid used to do with us. 2) Abdul Razzaq is a very good all rounder. His seam bowling could have been very effective in England providing the break throughs and keeping the pressure on. His explosive batting can never be underestimated. If I am not mistaken he did well in WC 99 which was in England. As an Indian watching matches against Pak, Younis's batting and Razzaq's bowling always made me nervous.

poor decision to drop a class player like younis, now who will bat at number 3? still i dont see any space for akmals. Hamad azam should play against india in playing 11. i would pick any batsmen but no U akmal

  • PlayfromDallas on April 6, 2013, 3:38 GMT

People those who are in favor of Razaq should know that he is one of those player who was given chance to bat at number three for a significant duration during World Cup 99 and later. The opportunity of bating above Inzmam, yousuf and Ejaz for any batsmen is a dream come true itself i.e. he got it made and he had ample time to cement his place in the team. On the other hand during the 2003 World Cup he dropped Sachin Tendulkar; dropping Tendulkar on that occasion is a crime itself repercussions could have been severe but he survived that too not only that he dropped Tendulker in a casual manner showed he didn't comprehend that it was a highly charged arch rivals India Pakistan World Cup encounter. Definitely he has done good also, for that he got the chances that weigh more than his share of contributions. At any given point and time Hamad Azam is far better selection he has ample energy and fighting sprit to become consistent member and can serve Pakistan for years to come.

@Sports4Youth: Average is not the ONLY criteria to select players this is how simple it is! Age facter, potential, match fitness, hard work i.e. visible among selectors with performance, how much cricket left in a player? Here is another example if it make sense to you; In the 70s when Iqbal Qasim current selector was 1st choice spinner Amin Lakhani made hat-trick in first inning and took four wickets in the 2nd inning against very strong Indian batting line at Multan; this is the best performance and average one can ever imagine. Did PCB drop Iqbal Qasim? What does it proves, it proves that average is not the ONLY criteria to select a player!

  • on April 3, 2013, 0:08 GMT

    Playing 11 should be:

Hafeez K. Akmal Nasir Jamshed (I think he is better at one down then opening) Misbah Asad Umer Akmal Hammad A/Shahid A Umer Gul (he always does well in English conditions - remember the last time) Saeed Ajmal Junaid Khan Muhammad Irfan

Back ups: Ahmed Shahzad (if the openers fail, he can be a good inclusion and then exclude Asad Shafiq) Haris Sohail Manzoor Ajmad (did very well domestically as an all rounder) Wahad Riaz Rahat Ali/Sadaf Hussain (Rahat Ali was impressive in second test and improved quickly - I think he can do well in the long run because he can swign the ball both ways at good pace).

  • Sports4Youth on April 2, 2013, 17:42 GMT

@ Toescrusher : With all respect if you see the number of wickets and average then number of matches can be understood. You will appreciate that i have fitted a lot of statistics in that post. There is a limitation of 1000 characters.

But to understand your objection, are you saying that inspite of bad averages and horrible performances in SA, W.Riaz, U.Gul & M.Sami should be in the team? Are you a fan of these three guys? If you are, then i must tell you that you will be very lonely in that club. There are far too many people out there who share my sentiments regarding these three.

Furhter your comparison of others to IMRAN Khan is highly misplaced, because Imran had proved himself at the highest level, and these guys have failed miserablly inspite of getting too many opportunities. You will agree that JUNAID and IRFAN are already miles ahead of these three in such a short time and in very limited opportunities. What is the harm in trying Sadaf, Rahat etc.

    .

  • Hus_Shahid on April 2, 2013, 16:37 GMT

Younis' era seems to be ending, as he could not justified his selection in SA tour. We have a good lot of middle order batsmen in the form of Asad Sahfiq and Haris Sohail, although, it will take time to reach YK's level for them. PCB, now, should look towards the preparation of a strong bench for CWC 2015, and bring in youth instead of senior pros like Misbah and Afridi. Thanks!

  • on April 2, 2013, 15:44 GMT

It is not surprising Yunus Khan has been left out of 30 man squad given he has failed to make significant contribution in the ODI team for number of years. However, I am surprised that players like Afridi and Malik were not also dropped and very much hope they will not be included in the final XV. It is time TEAM PAKISTAN moved on and looked to the youngsters irrespective of the results achieved in the short term. With regard to Hafeez I suppose there is no alternative in the short term but if he does not succeed in the coming tournament then he too should be thanked for his service to Pakistan cricket and shown the door. I do not think Asad Shafiq is an ODI player and I rather have Azhar Ali then him.It is also too late for Yasir Arafat to be considered any more. Misbah should continue to lead the team as long as he is performing both as a captain and player despite his age. The other players mentioned in the squad I know very little about and therefore I am unable to comment.

  • Toescrusher on April 2, 2013, 13:28 GMT

@Sports4Youth: Please include number of matches that will give clear picture. FYI ... Shafiq Papa had far better average than Majid Khan when Majid was 1st choice opener not only in Pakistan but in the Kerry Packer World Series as well. After few test matches Tasleem Arif had far better average than Miandad - does it means Majid and Miandad should have been dropped for the better average batsmen; Shafiq Papa and Taslim Arif? Also remember that Ejaz Faqehi had better domestic all-round average than Imran Khan does it means Imran would have been dropped?

It is really disappointed not see the name of YOUNUS KHAN in the squad of 30 members. Agree he was totally out of form in South Africa, but the question is ONLY YOUNUS KHAN was out of form ? If selectors drop him only for SA series performance so i think no one can able to select. Remember only few players are performance there in TEST, YOUNUS and ASAD made 100 in one inning, not others and SAEED AJMAL and JUNAID bowl really well. wht about others......

Now comes to Team Selection for UK... YOUNUS should be in Squad coz he and MISBAH are only the batsman who stay since last (50) overs. Do anybody think any other player stay sine last over.. i think no one will be disagree with me.

  • Sports4Youth on April 2, 2013, 11:22 GMT

Many people protesting the exclusion of Raza Hasan from the list of probables. But he has just returned from spine surgery after a lay-off of about 3-4 months. He still needs to get match fit. He will have to regain his form and fitness.

Also many people including me have protested about the exclusion of Abdul Razzaq, but he did not feature in the recently concluded T20 tournament. I do not know why. May be he is not fit or having some injury.

    .

  • Sports4Youth on April 2, 2013, 10:54 GMT

Great decision. But if this decision was based on performance then UMAR GUL, W.RIAZ also should have been left out of the probables. And if this decision was prompted by his age then Misbah should be left out as well, though he was the top scorer in the SA series.

Gul should be restricted to T20's only.

  • on April 2, 2013, 7:39 GMT

if we have drop a player on batting performance Mohhammad Hafiz is the on who should go out as well!! along with umer Gul!! . Both are only good enough for T-20s only. And if you want team to be clear of politics Shoiab Malick should be thrown out as well!!

  • Crick_Expert on April 2, 2013, 5:52 GMT

PCB should also drop Misbah and Asad Safiq from ODI, their skills not match with ODI or T20 standard. Afridi or Abdul Razzak are best choice for ODI/T20 team CAPT. ODI and T20 team should as; 1)AFRIDI(CAPT) 2)RAZZAK(Vice-CAPT) 3)Nasir J. 4)Ahmed Shahzad 5)Hafeez 6)Imran Nazir 7)Imran Farhat 8)Ajmal 9)Junaid 10)Irfan 11)Haris Shoail/Owais Zia/Hamaad Azam 12)U. Akmal(WKT)

Younis, Misbah, Asad should add in Test match only.

  • H-Shakil on April 2, 2013, 5:20 GMT

I strongly protest the exclusion of Raza Hasan, he is fine fine young talent :(

  • PadMarley on April 2, 2013, 4:59 GMT

As usual! A bunch of absolutely talented squad from Pakistan. Their success will totally depend on how the batting will succeed in English conditions. Bowling will not doubt be one of the best attacks, if not the best combination out of all countries.

  • on April 2, 2013, 1:52 GMT

it's time for younis to step down and let youngster take the charge

  • on April 2, 2013, 1:15 GMT

Selectors can be under some pressures, but on their own they go for the best. Younis K. at 35 yrs., is not particularly a great age to perform miricles. But again batters need right conditions to restore their confidence: say, good wickets or relatively weaker sides, and with better luck some right umpiring decisions. This is what some top teams do for their out of form batters. A number of Pak batters flundered on South African tour. For ODI, Pakistan has a battery of strike batters; Younis takes time for ODI, although not a slow batter at test match level. But pakistan should use the time he has left to develop a replacement or wil again fall into the gap left by Inzaman Ul.Haque and Mohd. Yousaf. Himself the aging, cool as cucumber Mibah Ul Hque, my be an endless savior.

  • CricketChat on April 1, 2013, 23:53 GMT

Younis is coming to the end of his career. He should have retired from ODIs couple of years ago while still wanted in the team. On his current form outside the sub-continent, he is not an automatic selection for test either. Must congratulate Pak selectors for introducing young talent boldly. That's the way to go.

  • on April 1, 2013, 22:14 GMT

Finally..open with Nasir and Farhat and get Hafeez in at 3. About time they dropped the dead weight. Hopefully after the Champions Trophy Misbah would politely retire rather than have removed. @hamza1982..I think you forgot that Farhat was the best batsman on show in the ODI series against SA, and in England against the moving ball, we need guys like Azhar Ali or Asad Shafiq in the team. With Younis in the squad, they have to play him, which means a deserving player sits out.

  • on April 1, 2013, 21:21 GMT

As a cricket fan...i would like to say that its a worst decession to drop a player like abdul razzak and nil players like afridi is in the squad.in five matches he only score 100 runs and his bowling was expensive.........razzak deserve a chance in place of afridi..........please be careful about your selection......i hope you all selectors understand wat we all Cricket Fan wants..........we like to see pakistan cricket team number 1 in ICC ranking..plz bring razzak back........thnxxx

  • on April 1, 2013, 20:09 GMT

I advice PCB to please include Younis Khan and Abdul Razzaq. Our team will be 100% perfect by the addition of these two players. Shoaib Malik can be dropped if compared with Abdul Razzaq.

  • on April 1, 2013, 19:47 GMT

The expected final 15 (95% correct i think)

    1) Misbah-ul-Haq(Captain) 2) Nasir Jamshed 3) Mohammad Hafeez ( All rounder) 4) Ahmed Shehzad/Azhar Ali 5) Umar Akmal 6) Shoaib Malik(All rounder) 7)Sohail Tanvir 8)Shahid Afridi(all rounder) 9) Umar Gul 10) Yasir Arafat((all rounder) 11) Saeed Ajmal 12) Abdul Rehman 13)Kamran Akmal 14)Asad Shafiq 15)Junaid Khan/ Mohammad Irfan

This is the best team and may win champions tropy in England

  • hamza1982 on April 1, 2013, 18:57 GMT

Dropping Younis makes sense, but why are Kamran, Farhat and Malik still there? These are people who are tried and failed miserably over and over again....

  • on April 1, 2013, 17:59 GMT

If Younis Khan has been dropped for his performance in South Africa than Muhammad Hafeez and Nasir Jamshed should also be dropped. Younis played well against India. Secondly I cant understand why Raza Hasan and Abdur Razzaq have been dropped. If Abdur Razzaq is not good enough to bowl anymore, he should be included in the team as a pure batsmen at no.3, I am sure he can perform well.

  • on April 1, 2013, 17:18 GMT

Why Abdul Razzaq is not included in the squad? End of his carrier? Strange....

  • Sports4Youth on April 1, 2013, 16:16 GMT

Among the bowlers the regular failures who keep getting in the team are Wahab Riaz, Sohail Tanvir & M.Sami. Inspite of such a pathetic show in the SA series again W.Riaz is reflected in the probables. This is a headless list. These 3 guys should be dumped for good and the selectors should start looking at youngsters like Sadaf Hussain, Rahat, Samiullah etc.

Also Umar Gul has not been performing since a very long time. The new commers Junaid & Irfan have already surpassed Gul. Start looking for more younsters and you will find more in Sadaf, Rahat, Samiullah, Adil etc.

    .

  • Sports4Youth on April 1, 2013, 16:10 GMT

There are quite a few comments here asking for the sacking of Shahid Afridi (age 33, all-rounder & good feilder) But in my opinion Misbah (almost 39 years, slow batsman) is in more urgent need to be replaced. Also Shoeb Mallik has got far too many opportunities in the last 2 years without giving any substantial performance. Also Kamran Akmal, Imran Farhat are liabilities and Farhat also drops important catches.

Afridi was also the 2nd highest run getter in the just concluded SA series. Also he is not slow. He can also turn the game with his leg spin. The best part obout Afridi is that inspite of being a Pakistani player he does not think that dropping catches is his right. He will never let you down in fielding. All in all a great human being. exciting guy to have in the team.

  • SwingReverse on April 1, 2013, 15:59 GMT

PCB needs to overhaul the selection processes. In the past Pak has brought in youngsters and experimented with raw talent and I believe they can do the same with Scotland/Ireland matches. Would like to see young batsmen and promising bowlers given the chance to perform outside of domestic circuit. Unfortunately Kamran is the best choice for a WK, we must endure with him until another suitable candidate steps up.

  • naz139 on April 1, 2013, 12:53 GMT

Other players to follow Younis should have been, Malik, Afridi, Misbah, Imran farhat. One good game does not mean you fail in the next 20. I would much rather lose with a young committed talented side than one with ageing has beens. Its time to look at the future, giving the right exposure these kids will have had enough experience to be ready for the next big cup!

  • Muxammil on April 1, 2013, 12:10 GMT

This is a great news who really know what cricket is!!! He drops very critical catches in several matches.. but still we believes that he is Pakistan's best fielder :) His batting average is below average, and most of the times he is failed in big matches.. yes he is a good player only on Asian pitches that it, nothing else! If we give the same number of matches to any other ordinary player he might have average from Y.k.. Good bye Y. khan

PCB should be looking to groom youngsters keeping in view the 2015 world cup, get rid of Misbah, Hafeez, Malik, Kamran and Afridi, they will be too old by 2015. why not try youngsters now and in 2 years they will have enough international experience. the only world cup we won was due to 3nyoungsters Akram, Mushy and Inzimam.

  • ICCexpert.... on April 1, 2013, 11:53 GMT

Time to change selector.Kamran Akmal as sole wicket keeper,Afridi, Shoib Malik Yasir Arafat still in is really shocking. What Razzak ,Raza Assan and FawwadAlam done wrong to be ignored. At least one positive that balancing factor Misbah still in.

  • Khattak95 on April 1, 2013, 11:19 GMT

Thanks Allah for hearing half good news, as Misbah and Shoaib have been selected, their is no dought that in Pakistan team the selection is always BIASED, as Kamran Akmal don't have any right to play keeping his performance over the years but he is blue eyed so will continue playing. And also subcontinent players have a habit of being droped from team with humiliation at elder age while Damien Martin of Australia if you people remember retired during SRI L tour by saying that Michael Clark career is at stake due to my presence so he voluntarily left for glorious Michaeal Clark. May these players (asian ) should learn these ethics.

  • Talhazamir on April 1, 2013, 11:18 GMT

Very sad to see Younis Khan left out, but it was inevitable and needed to happen. :( Some other names should have been excluded too. Doesn't make sense to include the likes of Rahat Ali, Sohail Tanvir, et all. But it's great that a lot of youngsters who have been consistently performing domestically get to be a part of the squad - hope to see them in the playing xi too!

"Younis Khan left out of Champions Trophy squad", music to my ears!!

It's delightful to see young names like: Shezhad, Harris, Rahat, Ehsan, Hammad, Asad Ali, Imran Khan and especially, Mohammed Rizwan.

But then again, I was very disappointed to see the names: Tanvir, Cheema, Arafat, Amin, Anwar Ali, Azhar, Riaz, Farhat and Rehman. These flops shouldn't even be anywhere the squad, let alone the team.

Also, why were the likes of: Sadaf Hussain, Naved Yasin, Fawad Alam, Zia-Ul-Haq, Raza Hasan and Nayyer Abbas, IGNORED?!?!

My squad of 15 for the CT would be: Misbah (cpt), Kamran/Rizwan (wkt), Ajmal, Umar, Afridi, Hafeez, Junaid, Irfan, Harris, Shezhad, Jamshed, Hammad, Ehsan, Gul and Malik or Yasin (preferably Yasin).

ys good decsion to drop younas but i also think that considering the champion tropy is in england i think there is no place for afridi and malik as both are spinners and allrounders. for england pakistan need to get in a medium pace batting allrounder. Razak would have been a good choice but ok if he is not in get in some 1 else. a god medium pace batting allrounder may also give pakistan chance to get in extra batsman.

Hafeez should play down the order. and if paksitan can not find any other batting keeper then kamran will be opening or ahmed shezad.

there is no place for afrid & malik in playing 11 in england. because afridi is not a full bowler nor batsman. and malik hardly bowls so can get in proper batsman.

hafeez and misbah can play anchor role in middle order and malik/afridi give way to 1 proper batsman and 1 allrounder.

They can drop either malik or afridi and bring back Razak who is more consistent than the former two players. I dont why PCB is still selecting malik and afridi.

  • on April 1, 2013, 9:07 GMT

Abdul Razzaq has the best record as all rounder in conditions such as England. He can bowl a bit and can hit massive sixes. Axing Younis will cost Pakistan that's what I believe but yes its time that we should look for some change but in English conditions things will be very difficult for youngsters. Afridi will remain in squad bcz he can deliver on the pitches. I believe Younis and Abdul Razzaq will be added in the squad later on. Hafeez should play down the order and Ahmed Shehzad should play well to secure his place as he is a good batsman who takes of the pressure as well as a very fine fielder who can save 20 plus runs in an inning through his fielding. I believe a additional seamer should be taken and 2 spinners will do and if needed a bowling all rounder should be added..

Sorry for YK he is a fighter cricket.. PCB made him escape goat as we see he was not performing well in ODIs so why he select at first place in SA as hes a quality Test Player, Hafeez, Misbah and so as Afridi doesn't do well, Just as we thought that Imran Farhat will be back and i predict he will be selected no matter what everybody says his inning in the match was pathetic to see his shots. When will PCB give chances to young talent on regular basis keeping Umar Akmal and Asad Shafiq out from ODIs is a crime. Why select Azhar Ali? Kamran Akmal is pathetic even his brother Umar Akmal is better keeper than him,

Nasir Jamshed,Ahmed Shehzad, Haris Sohail, Asad Shafiq, Umar Akmal, Shoaib Umer Amin, Hammad Azam,Junaid Khan, Mohammad Irfan, Umar Gul,Saeed Ajmal, must be selected others are just politically selected, Wasting a serious talent of Raza Hasan.

  • on April 1, 2013, 8:02 GMT

It is a good decision to drop Younus after his horror show in SA, esp considering that he was supposed to lead the batting line with his experience & help the youngsters in hostile conditions.. I was very disappointed in the team management when Asad Shafiq was dropped for the last 4 ODIs, after his performances in the test series.. . It is time to bring in Ehsan Adil as well.. In england, the conditions will favour the quickies & he did well in the SA & has also performed considerably well in the Super-8 T20 & the faisal bank one day cup.. Umar Gul should be axed from the one day side. He was way too inconsistent, when, with his experience he should be leading the attack!! . Umar Amin & mansoor Amjad has performed again & again this season, only to be ignored. Umar Amin should play in the CT, as he has played in England before & is a medium pacer. We should go with 3 quicks (Ehsan, Irfan & Junaid), 2 spinners (Ajmal & Hafeez) & U. Amin in place of Afridi (better batsman & medium pace)

  • on April 1, 2013, 7:35 GMT

Really feel for the champion all rounder Abdul Razzak, in fact he should be the first man to be in the side for english conditions. He should play in middle order as he is far better batsman than most of the middle order batsmans. I am so much disapointed with the current cricket administrators they have wasted the real genious (Abdul Razzak). Younis should be droped he is doing almost nothing from last 3 year. Shafiq is a far better choice. he is also a gem, but management has to do a bit of finishing on him.

  • hellothereeveryone on April 1, 2013, 7:31 GMT

Abdul Razaq's exclusion from the squad especially in English conditions shows either a personal grudge against Razaq or that selectors dont know what they are doing. Pakistan team is in dire need of a good all rounder who can bowl medium pace still we keep on omitting Razzaq who has so much experience in England and has always performed in England. How can you keep on selecting players like Afridi and keep on ignoring Razaq???? Doesnt make sense at all.

  • on April 1, 2013, 7:30 GMT

Very Happy that Hammad Azam is selected...Hez our new Abdul Razzaq and we should groom him..Pakistan is lacking an allrounder who bats and can bowl seam bowling as well...And he will also balance the side with 4 seam bowlers and 3 spinners..

Sahid Afridi should be the t20 and ODI captain coz the team which he had in last world cup no one has hope that pakistan cricket team will reach to semi final so there fore Afridi is the only choice and he has good skill and capicity of being as ODI and T20 captain if the other pakistani player play with him thanks

  • SAF. on April 1, 2013, 7:13 GMT

Another day, another selection, another squad and another mistake. Yet again the PCB overlooks Fawad Alam as an option for even a list of 30 probables for reasons unknown. If selection was based on figures than Alam should have been one of the first to be chosen yet instead they select people like Umer Amin who have a list A average of 31, Imran Farhat, who after playing 53 international matches, only has an average of 32 and Umar Akmal who's only scored 1 hundred in 70 ODI's. In comparison to which Alam has a list A average of over 40 with a one day average of 38. Based on performance he should have been chosen.

By the way PCB, if you're keeping Kamran Akmal as a keeper for his batting then you've possibly made the biggest mistake yet because over the past year Akmal's average has been 12.77 in ODI's with no fifties or hundreds to boot. Statistically: Gul, Wahab and Afridi all have better averages then him over the last year so why he's selected remains a mystery.

  • on April 1, 2013, 6:53 GMT

  • ashakoor52 on April 1, 2013, 6:53 GMT

Younus should concentrate on test cricket. Misbah should be the captain of all formats of cricket but he must change his very slow batting in ODI and T20.Seam Bowlers like Mudassar Nazar and abdul Razzaq had been very successful in English conditions, therefore,A.Razzaq must have been included in not only 30 but touring 14 members.

Very well knowlegeable commentator and writer late Umar qureshi always wrote about A.Razzaq "A CAPTAIN MATERIAL" but our narrow minded and the least knowledgeable cricket administraters have wasted a real genious.

  • on April 1, 2013, 6:52 GMT

I strongly comment that PCB should include "Mohammad Yousaf" and "Abdul Razzaq"...Mohammad Youasf is leading run-scorer for Pakistan in the events like this....He has average more than 48....

i think Pakistan Team should be like

    1.Ahmad Shahzad 2.Nasir Jamashed 3.Muhammad Yousaf 4.Hafeez 5.Umer Akmal 6.Mansoor Amjad 7.Abdul Razzaq 8.Sarfraz 9.Umer Gul 10.Irfan 11.Saeed Ajmal

In this team You Have 3 spinners +2 fast bowlers+1 medium You have batting line up till 9th wicket...

  • SherjilIslam on April 1, 2013, 6:45 GMT

PCB has gone bad to worst.Retaining players like Afridi, Malik, and Misbah tells the story itself.Abdul Razzak is the best all-rounder Pak has produced in recent times. But Hafeez ensured that unless he's around the team, Razzak will never get selected. Afridi is the most overrated player Pak has ever produced. Can't see him doing any good in English conditions with his bowling, and as for his batting, least said is better. And what Kamran Akmal and Sohail tanveer are doing in the list of probables. Can easily see Pak losing to India and getting eliminated straightaway.

  • dmqi on April 1, 2013, 6:33 GMT

To summarize, it appears that Pak Captain/future captain can omit /exclude a player. Because Razzaque gave a statement against flat trac Hafiz adter the T20 competition, he has been omitted from 30 contenders. Shame on the selection committee. Quasim, see how many people are questioning on one player's exclusion.

  • Saqib_Sheraz on April 1, 2013, 6:25 GMT

Good Decision overall, the only regret that Younis Khan should made this decision earlier this year by himself right after that when he consistently failed to regain his form, but not by the selectors. he is the only star Pakistan produce during the hard times, when we have no International cricket in Pakistan. But still a better choice in Test Matches.

  • on April 1, 2013, 6:18 GMT

RAZZAQ WE NEED YOU! You are the best batsmen of the Pakistani team. Misbah, Afridi, Malik and Kamran should go. Your batting is so good you have hit so much sixes and you bat with calmness and you are always careful of your shots. Hafeez can't do anything against Dale Steyn ad he can't perform as an all-rounder anymore. Your bowling is very excellent and you can pick up wicket unlike Wahab Riaz who gave 93 runs in one match and gives so much extras. My team would be,

    1)Shehzad 2)Jamshed 3)

  • on April 1, 2013, 5:52 GMT

I think this is a good decesion of PCB to select a mix of young and experience players because you cannot totally neglect the experience players as for such a big tournament. In my opinion umar akmal should get a proper chance anywhere in the top order so that he can prove his worth. Shahid afridi got to get his bowling form back because he is really struggling as he hasn't even managed to take a single wicket in his last six matches

  • mshyder on April 1, 2013, 5:49 GMT

  • mshyder on April 1, 2013, 4:54 GMT

With Younus' spot vaccant, Hafeez should put his ego aside and agree to move down the order. He is visibly more comfortable against medium pacers and spinners, so more suitable for one drop position in ODIs. Thus we can have Nasir Jamshed, Ahmad Shahzad and Imran Farhat as openers. Azhar Ali is a very good test batsman and should not be wasted in ODIs. As he is loosing his steady batting approach in trying to mould himself for ODIs. Unfortunately there is no room for Afridi and Shoaib Malik based on their poor recent showings. Which leaves us with Hammad Azam as the only all rounder. Although he is actually a good prospect. If Rizwan Ahmad is the only other wicket keeper in the probables then he should be preferred over Kamran Akamal, as any wicket keeper would be better than him. Even the keeper from our blind cricket team would be better than Kamran Akmal.

  • mughal29173 on April 1, 2013, 4:46 GMT

we must not forget that in this earlier part of english summer ball will seam and swing more then the late summer. we need players with tested abilities in those conditions. if we put 1-2 young batsmen in the team, that too on debut, then we shall not expect too much from them. Other asian teams bring debutants on their turfs and not in difficult conditions

Although its painful but decision at the right direction. I am surpised as to why M/S Hafeez and Kamran Akmal are still in the team. Hafeez's batting was shameful in SA and as usual, Kamran let the team down on every outing. Its time Pakistan look to the future and plan ahead. After poor showing in SA, Hafeez and Kamran Akmal do not deserve their places in Pak team. Afridi, Shoaib Malik and Misbah should also be eased out gradually. What Pakistan needs is a genuine all rounder. A. Razzak's absence is being felt very baldy.

  • sam1952 on April 1, 2013, 4:21 GMT

Good riddance of Younis Khan! He is one of the main culprits of Pakistan's fragile batting. If Ahmed Shahzad was there in his place, things could be different. It is time to say good-bye to Hafeez,Shoaib Malik, Kanran Akmal, and Afridi; all of them call themselves batsman and averaged below 30 in the RSA tour. It is time to sack Iqbal Qasim for such poor batsman selection.

We do NOT need Razak back but fresh , young legs.

    My Pakistani team would be:1)Ahmed Shahzad,2) Umar Amin,3) Umar Akmal,4) Rizwan (wicketkeeper) 5) Farhat,8) Irfan,7) Junaid,8) Rahman, 9)Misbah,10) Hammad Azam, and 11) Ehsan Adil.

It is time to make sweeping changes and to bench Misbah also after the Champion's Trophy. Enough is enough!

wahab riaz should not even be allowed to come near the squad.

  • on April 1, 2013, 4:11 GMT

A good decision on part of Younis Khan and about Shoaib Malik well he is a seasonal player and to those who say he doesnt score runs tell me at which number does he bat he is basically a 1 down bat. Good selection on the part of Ahmed Shehzad and the wicketkeeper Mohammad Rizwan. We still need a good batsman who we can trust in the Middle order and therefore i think that Nasir should now come down the order as it could bring stability in the middle order and Hafeez should also consider coming down the order Imran Farhat and Ahmed Shehzad on the other hand are good openers ! In the Bowlers section I think we have a very good fast bowling attack with Junaid and Irfan which should not be touched and the Spinning attack should have had a better variety with Raza Hasan in the team.

  • on April 1, 2013, 3:55 GMT

all of u are saying that there iz only one wicket keeper i hv to remind all of u that Muhammad Rizwan is also a wicketkeeper. i heard a statement from chief selecter that he eyes on M Rizwan as a back up for kamran akmal as he iz continuously failing in the wicket keeping department

  • pak_fan11 on April 1, 2013, 3:41 GMT

why there are not considering abdul razzqa.. he is good batsman.

  • Shahbaz Alam on April 1, 2013, 3:26 GMT

I think there is some major reason behind dropping Abdul Razzak. If there is something wrong done by AR, then board/selectors should told everybody. Left him without any reason at all, real problem for Pak cricket. I don't understand why ppl criticise Malik, who is the only batsman was not out three times (once in Ind. and twice in SA) out of last four wins for Pak. A mature solid run maker who carries the team with him to victory as long as he stay at the wicket. You can't compare him with Umer/Asad as they are not finishers. Kamran was best wicketkeeper opener pak ever produced. Utlize his abilities as opener as Hafeez is not good against seem bowling so he may be at No.3/4, which make batting more strong.

  • mumerashfaq on April 1, 2013, 3:16 GMT

In SA series, Misbah was the only man scoring runs, no why drop YOUNUS only, why not nasir, kamran, hafeez or shoaib???

  • on April 1, 2013, 3:07 GMT

Raza Hassan not part of the 30 man squad is a shocker. I am also very surprised that there is only 1 keeper in the 30 man squad. that gives an indication that the selectors are not even thinking about a backup option. Jamal Anwar looks like a good backup player who can score few quick runs down the order but more importantly he can take the chances offered. saw few of his matches in domestic T20 and he was impressive.

  • on April 1, 2013, 2:51 GMT

It is really surprising to see Younis Khan is not included in the 30 probables for the Champions Trophy. One Series failure doesn't mean that he is in the descending path. Even if so, the selectors should have handled it better. Younis is a team player and doesn't want to stick to the team if he can't perform for the team. He earlier relinquished his captaincy for the teams sake. So, I feel it is very harsh for the selectors to drop him abruptly like this. If the selectors are going for the youngsters thinking about the future then why are they still holding with Shahid Afridi, Misbah, Shoaib Malik, Abdul Rahman and Mohammad Hafeez. Why did they select only one wicket keeper in the 30? At least they should have picked two for the 30 list and can trip to one when they select the final 15. Something is wrong in the selectors thinking. I think it is very hastily they have gone for the probables. Nothing can be done now. Let us hope the best team will be selected from the 30 list.

  • roook on April 1, 2013, 2:51 GMT

Good decision and is likely to be replaced by umar akmal or Asad shafiq. I doudt it will bring total stability in the current batting lineup as non batsman except misbah averages above 35.Newlonger like Ahmed Shehzad/Asad shafiq has a decent 20-20 carrier he should be in team who can play long and consistent.

  • on April 1, 2013, 2:40 GMT

Really disappointed to see the pool of players after reading "Umair Qazi" artile "Time for Pakistan to look beyond Younis Khan and Shoaib Malik". Why PCB is so defensive now-a-days. Where are those golden selection cameo where PCB used to bring lots of young promising players? But same old bunch of old players in the team whether they perform or not. Where is the justification of Kamran, Malik, Arafat and Afridi? Also, based on fact Safiq and Azhar are not ODI player when you consider chasing 300 runs in even flat pitch. Sorry to see Raza Hasan, Sadaf Hussain, Mohammad Nawaz, Ziaul Haq, Sohaib Maqsood left out. But positive selection of Mohammad Rizwan (WK), Ahmed Shehzad, Haris Sohail, Umer Amin, Hammad Azam, Asad Ali, Anwar Ali, Junaid Khan, Ehsan Adil, Imran Khan. But at the end some non-performer will be selected with one or two surprise.

  • PakFollower on April 1, 2013, 2:10 GMT

Move is in right direction. -Besides Asad Shafiq Pakistan needs couple more mature middle order batsman. who??? -We also need world class allrounder to replace ShoaibMAlik/ShahidAfride. -Search for a good TEST/ODI Wicketkeeper/batsman also required. Kamran Akmal only good for T20. -Time to groom Umar Akmal. Send him at # 1, # 2 or # 3 in ODI and TEST, and play him there for at least one year. He is the best talent and deserves place in higher order. -Right arm fast Ehsan Adil should be part of ODI/TEST team. Omar Gul looks ordinary. He is not a clutch bowler. -Mohamad Irfan proved himself and should be part of ODI squad. -Misbah should lead the team until next odi worldcup, after that needs his replacement also.

  • KiwiRocker- on April 1, 2013, 1:56 GMT

It would have not been an easy decision for selectors to drop Younis Khan for ODI's. Shoib Mailk did not create any sensations against SA either and Younis is a superb fielder( albiet his dorp of AB cost Pak series). Younis still remains Pakistan's best test batsman and it should be fully acknowledged. On balance, it is a fair call to drop him as if Pak selctors do not drop him, Pak will start suffering how India is....Indian selectors have failed to drop players like Sehwag, Tendulya and Gambhir and now Indian team is a sitting duck outside India. It is pleasing to see that Pak selectors are drawing a line. I am not a big fan of Imran Farhat but he has proven against SA that he is a better batsman now. I am bit disappointed that Fawad Alman is ignored againt. He is a very fine all rounder and should be in ahead of Umer Amin( who had plenty of chances but keeps coming back). Similarly, Khurram Manzoor should be in for Aizaaz Cheema! What wrong Raza Hassan has done? He should be in!

  • rajbal on April 1, 2013, 1:54 GMT

Only to be recalled later...count the number of times Younis, Youhanna, Afridi, Razak, Akmals were dropped and recalled

  • MichealT on April 1, 2013, 1:46 GMT

I think it is time for Afridi, Shoaib and some other players to think of retirement after Champion's trophy. I think even Bangladesh can surpass them in the future if they won't make bold decision. As long as they are making money these players won't retire. Even if they loose some matches they still develop their team quickly in couple of years.

  • Rafelgibt on April 1, 2013, 1:37 GMT

As long as Shoib Malik is in the squad and has been selected for the best 11, i would say PAK really doesnt have the chance to win on a regular basis.

Where Are Abdul Razzaq I want Pakistan playing 11 Icc Champions Trophy Named For Abdul Razzaq.

  • Shap on April 1, 2013, 0:58 GMT

There is no point playing shoaib malik if he is not going to bowl. He can make way for a specialist batsman like asad shafiq or umar akmal. Or some day replace afridi whenever he gets dropped. Also, hafeez can take younis khan's spot and make way for a more dependable opener. Kamran akmal is not a bad opening option until he is on the team. Also, hammad azam should be given a chance to add depth in the batting. Pakistan's tail was long in South Africa. They really must be missing Mohd Amir even now. What a pitty.

  • aiksa on April 1, 2013, 0:52 GMT

My only question is why only Younus Khan has been dropped? What did Imran Farhat, Kamran Akmal, Shoaib Malik & Afridi achieve to stay in the team? Azhar Ali is certainly not a player of short formats. He lacks the technique and aggression required for the shorter formats. Pakistan must give chance to some other wicketkeeper-batsman, who should be a keeper first. Kamran has been a disaster with gloves and an ODI batting average of 26 is just not good enough to play him as a batsman. Abdul Razzak's omission is a mistery.

  • Equanimous on March 31, 2013, 23:54 GMT

I hope they look at the stats to choose a team and keep the emotions out of it. Shoaib Malik is an off spinner and if you choose him to play as a specialist batsmen you will get the batting average of an off spinner. If you choose Imran farhat, you'll get mid 20'a ( if we are lucky). Hafeez can play lower down as a bowling all rounder. If we had a deaf and a blind statistician who could read numbers through Braille ,he would pick a much better team then the current lot who are so easily swayed by their biases and misguided reliances on one brilliant performance in 2 years. Pick new people. Give them a run of 10 or so matches. If they are good enough invest in them, otherwise discard and pick someone else. We may loose some matches but THAT'S OK. We'll be loosing while trying to do the just thing. This team is a microcosm of our culture. I am not surprised that people averaging 22-32 after 100 or internationals keep getting picked

  • RANA1610 on March 31, 2013, 23:33 GMT

Hafeez should be out of the team.

  • on March 31, 2013, 22:54 GMT

It's a bad move to kick out Younus Khan. He is such an experienced player, especially in a fragile batting line up, he is kind of stabelizer. Very sad to see him being off the list. He is purely a team man and always gives his 100% in all parts of the game.

  • AamirAbuOzair on March 31, 2013, 22:39 GMT

Surprized to see young Raza Hassan and experienced Abdul Razzaq being ignored.

I really want to know why Abdul Razzaq is constantly being ignored. If it is due to personal likeness or dislikeness of Hafeez/Afridi then it is a big shame for all of us and we donot deserve to win.

We need to think beyond personal issues and play for the sake of the country. How good or bad is a player, if he puts his ego ahead of country's then he does not deserve to win.

Hafeez did not even play once Abdul Razzaq in Lahore Lions team. Why?

It was good to see him losing the semi. And good to see he lost to Misbah , our king of tuk tuk ! At least Misbah plays for the country.

We need to clean the politics from our PCB and cricket team and through out Hafeez. He does not deserve to be our captain. I demand his resignation!!!

  • omar_choudhary on March 31, 2013, 21:46 GMT

I wonder what goes around inside Afridi's head sometimes, but the selectors poor judgement compels me to think what goes around inside their heads. When there is a perfectly fit player, who has proved his worth and skill in the team, why is he ignored? Raza Hasan has been in good form in the domestic T20 even after his recovery from the back injury he had picked up. In Abdul Razzaq's case, I would like to say that his career had been done injustice, especially 2 years back, when Afridi was ODI captain. He had another 2-3 years left him at least but now its understandable he is not chosen as he is not in 2015 World Cup plans. But my question to all, everyone who is reading the post, any Pakistani fans who know where is Rana Naved Ul Hasan, Rao Ifthikar, Aizaz Cheema, Mohammad Talha, Sohail Khan, Abdur Rauf, Khurram Manzoor, Khalid Latif etc. PS- I know some of the above listed players were not that good, but they were seen as the future prospects 4-5 years ago.

Lot's of new names here, but the same old first 11 will be chosen in the end, The under 19 team is regularly in finals and semi finals of their respective world cups and other tournaments, but I haven't seen many come through and perform, especially batsmen. Our most consistent batsmen is either Misbah/Asad Shafiq, look at their averages. The Akmals need to go.

Would you be honest enough to tell us the inside stroy behind Razzaq's drop. Would also like to tell us why Fawad Alam's domestic performances do not count while mediocre performances from Imran Farhat, Faisal Iqbal and some others count again and again, failur after failure.

  • mshyder on March 31, 2013, 20:09 GMT

The selection shows that even after a disappointing SAF tour, relationships, contacts and friendships are still more important than the country. If not, then the selection committee should not include Imran Farhat, Shoaib Malik, Shahid Afridi, Azhar Ali, Asad Ali, Wahab Riaz, Rahat Ali, Imran Khan, Umar Gul, Ehsan Adil, Anwar Ali, Zulfiqar Babar, Yasir Arafat and Kamran Akmal in the final 16. Otherwise we do not have a chance of doing anything notable with this dead wood in the team. Show that you are not spineless, think long term and make bold decisions.

  • uzairamir on March 31, 2013, 20:09 GMT

for all the people who are saying there is one keeper in the squad look carefully theres also muhammad rizwan who is a very good wicketkeeper batsmen and way better than kamran akmal. He just needs to be played in the top order according to his strike rate

  • on March 31, 2013, 20:01 GMT

I think the selection is not upto mark.i think they did not keep the conditioning which tournament will be played. It is unfair that the performer of recent domestic tournaments like Akber Rehman , Atif Maqbool and Tabish khan are not included in squad of 30 players. Raza Hassan has fully recovered and performed well in Fiysal Bank tournament, he should be in the team.I believe that Younus khan has been dropped because they want to include Azhar Ali in the side.

  • Shahzadhussan on March 31, 2013, 19:46 GMT

Iqbal Qasim is a defensive selector, seriously, the disaster happened in Australia tour 2010 when Aussies completely whitewashed Pakistan in all 3 tests, 5 ODIs and only T20, that team was selected by Mr. Iqbal Qasim, and after that series he resigned. Moraly, he should not be given that seat again or he himself should not accept this post. But unfortunately, this is what happens in Pakistan.

Can we stop groaning and moaning about the Younis Khans, The Afridis, and The Abdul Razzaqs. Only a matter of time before someone brings up that worst of the lot - Imran Nazir.

These were excellent players for Pakistan, and their services will be long remembered. But, they are spent forces, all of them.

What I want to know is how long will we keep ignoring special talents like Azeem Ghumman? How much more time must Hammad Azam wait before he is given a semblance of a real opportunity? Afridi fans will do well to start rooting for Awais Zia then!

And just there you have The Younis Khan (or better) of tomorrow, the Abdul Razzaq of tomorrow and the Afridi of tomorrow...

Raza Hassan deserved to be in the team. Rest I think is pretty good. Abdul Razzaq my friends is an old story now. We have good all rounders in 30 men Squad i.e. Hammad and Anwer. I am pretty sure one of the two ll make it to final 16, and likely prove himself a worthy entrant in the team.

  • Ahsan-cric-freak on March 31, 2013, 17:52 GMT

Nice bunch of players are involved in this squad with exceptions of Kamran Akmal and Sohail tanvir. I think Younus had given up ODIs and was just playing them for granted against proteas. Again sadly i can see some illiterate people (who don't even have no-how of cricket) questioning and criticizing misbah's selection. He has been the leading high scorer with SR orf 137 in domestic t20 and still those foo lchaps don't stop muttering. He is the key in the present batting line up. tell me: if he retires, who are the batsmen whom v can believe they can take Pak to 50th over- nasir, hafiz, akmals, malik or Mr Afridi??? @Hira1: Pakistan is going to Ireland in late May to play 2 odis where the conditions are pretty much same as England's..

  • kangir on March 31, 2013, 17:51 GMT

Three suprsing ommisions FAWAD ALAM ; SOHAIB MAQSOOD & RAZA HASAN....that 93 scored by imran farhat in the 4th ODI is going to keep him in the team for atleast one year..such a shame

  • on March 31, 2013, 17:51 GMT

I can't believe Abdul Razzaq has been ignored yet again. Surely Cricketing reasons can't be behind it. Something else too going on which, the fans, don't know about. Razaaq is such a self-less Cricketer. He is a true match winner unlike Afridi who just comes in to bat, Hits couple of sixes, increases his tally of sixes and gets out immediately. What is the use of those SIXES when you can't win matches for your team ? Even after playing 350+ matches, his batting average is pathetic i.e. 23.45. Yuk ! Nowadays even his bowling has become pathetic. In last 10 matches or so, he's hardly picked 3-4 wickets.

  • on March 31, 2013, 17:47 GMT

Abdul Razzaq shouldn't be dropped. If Pakistan wants to win Abdul Razzaq should be in Team as he is the most experienced and profillic crickter.Poor Razzaq Vixtim of Cricket politics,Hope he will be back soon

  • on March 31, 2013, 17:43 GMT

Abdul Razzaq shouldm't be dropped..Poor Razzaq You became victimis of politics

  • irfankhanowaisi on March 31, 2013, 17:35 GMT

I think it is a right decision about Younis Khan, Shahid Khan Afridi should get rest too. Raza Hassan should be on replacement we are wasting him.

  • Surajdon9 on March 31, 2013, 17:28 GMT

So many Bowler Picked..We need batsmen who can stay n score with required aggression...

  • Anubhav-the-Experience on March 31, 2013, 17:18 GMT

In SA, not taking experienced batsman could be a mistake.

  • on March 31, 2013, 17:18 GMT

What makes Shahid Afridi into the Pakistan team is unknown. Is he a batsman? Is he a bowler? Anyway, it is for the selectors and supporters of the team to bother. I raised it only as a cricket lover. Also, continued omission of Abdul Razzak from Pak ODI team surprises me. I strongly believe that Razzak still has the ability to win matches for Pakistan at number 7 or 8 and accommodation of Afridi there is a true joke.

  • Sports4Youth on March 31, 2013, 17:17 GMT

Why is Azhar Ali shown in the probables? It is confirmed that like Younis he is a good Test player but a bad ODI player.

I hope Azhar, I.Farhat, W.Riaz, S.Mallik, Kamran are left out.

  • Sports4Youth on March 31, 2013, 17:14 GMT

I think Pakistan's biggest weapon will be Mohammed Irfan. Also I hope Harris Sohail is fully fit by now. I would like to see him take Yonis Khan's place.

Also I hope that S.Tanvir, S.Mallik & W.Riaz are left out of the 15 members squad.

  • IdreesAhmed95 on March 31, 2013, 17:13 GMT

Raza Hasan has just come back from injury, I think that's why he is not selected. I don't understand why not choose Yousef (even after so many years) and Razzaq. Younis Khan I'm happy he's gone because he's been batting so poorly for the past years and we STILL choose him. I'm glad he's gone. I hope that Razzaq came though because he can be as destructive as Afridi, and also he's good with bowling. We need to choose our 3 seamers wisely because I think definitely choose J. Khan and Irfan, AND Gul for me, since he's better than having someone like Arafat or Riaz. I hope the Pakistani selectors don't do anything stupid, but since it IS Pakistan, they probably will -_- starting XI: Jamshed K Akmal Hafeez Misbah Malik U Akmal Afridi Gul Ajmal J Khan Irfan

Although I wouldn't mind there to be a younger squad if it means better for the future

  • Sports4Youth on March 31, 2013, 17:10 GMT

Mohammad Rizwan is a 20 year old wicket keeper batsman. having a good record in the domestic games.

  • on March 31, 2013, 17:07 GMT

national champion karachi (blue)and KCCA only consit of two players ... anwar and asad where is akbar ur rehman .. khuraam manzoor , tabish khan , ramiz raja , haris ali ? is there is no talent in national champion team ?

  • Porky_PigTheToon on March 31, 2013, 17:06 GMT

    Goodness me !

I can't believe Abdul Razzaq has been ignored yet again. Surely Cricketing reasons can't be behind it. Something else too going on which, the fans, don't know about.

Kamran Akmal is such a talented wicket-keeper that even domestic teams won't pick him.

  • on March 31, 2013, 17:05 GMT

Well younas performance in shorter format is very poor ,his last century came in 2008 ,pak team need a genuine no 3 like sangakara trott kohli

  • Hira1 on March 31, 2013, 17:05 GMT

Pakistan have no choice other than to give another chance to these tried and tested players, selecting youngster at this stage is not going to help them, probably its last chance for Misbah, Hafeez, afridi, malik, akmal, farhat etc to prove them or rest them for ever.

  • on March 31, 2013, 17:03 GMT

selection commitee Always forget talented /match winner player Abdul Razzaq....what R doing sohail Tanvin in 30 sqad ...........where are mohd Yousuf,Imran Nazir,Abdul Razzaq ,Raza Hasan

  • GermanPlayer on March 31, 2013, 17:01 GMT

I will not be surprised if they end up calling younis back. Or worst, he still has a chance to make a comeback after the CT. He has just been left out so that people will think PCB is working. In truth, its going to be the same story again and Younis shouldnt think his career is over. If it was like that, Afridi, Misbah, Malik would have long left the game :)

  • Sports4Youth on March 31, 2013, 17:01 GMT

MOHAMMED RIZWAN is a 20 year old Wicket Keeper Batsman he has a first class average of 44.32 and LIst A average of 34.25. It looks like a step in the right direction.

    .

  • Hira1 on March 31, 2013, 16:59 GMT

what is the preparation Pak having before champions trophy, are they going to only play domestic cricket during these two months and expect player to perform in english conditions or they have arrange some matches in foreign soil before the cup?

  • on March 31, 2013, 16:59 GMT

Kick Shahid Afridi and Shoab Malik too. Put in Abdur Razzaq My team should be Nasir Jamshed, Umar Akmal (wk), Azhar Ali, Mohammad Hafeez (c), Imran Farhat/ or some other left hand batsmen in middle order, Asad Shafiq, Junaid Khan, Mohammad Irfan, Umar Gul, Saeed Ajmal, Abdul Rehman

  • MWaqqar on March 31, 2013, 16:54 GMT

I think the final fifteen will be from the seventeen that toured SA minus Younis and Sohail Tanvir.

  • Sports4Youth on March 31, 2013, 16:52 GMT

Leaving out ABDUL RAZZAQ is not good. He is being ignored time and again.

  • on March 31, 2013, 16:52 GMT

    well done to selectors

  • on March 31, 2013, 16:50 GMT

good to see muhammad rizwan anwar ali harris sohail amin and lots of youngster in the squad <3

  • on March 31, 2013, 16:48 GMT

Younis should have been in the squad as he is familiar with english conditions..many names have still made it to the squad who dont derserve to be there..on the top is professor hafeez and akmal brothers..

  • on March 31, 2013, 16:45 GMT

Where is Razzaq its totally unfair

  • on March 31, 2013, 16:43 GMT

WHERE'S RAZZAQ? he deserves to be in the team. this stupid selection commitee is exactly why our team will lose every series. WHY IS MOHAMMAD YOUSUF NOT BEING SELECTED? WHERE'S RAZA HASAN?? this is why we can't win. Azhar Ali is a test batsman. Once he proves he can score at 80+ strikerate then select him our squad SHOULD be. 1. Jamshed 2. Kamran 3.Hafeez 4. Misbah-ul-haq 5. Umar Akmal 6. Shoaib Malik 7. Afridi 8. Razzaq 9. Ajmal 10. Irfan 11. Junaid 12. Asad Shafiq 13. Raza Hasan 14. Hammad Azam 15. Ahmed Shehzad. Or if you want a totally young side except for 2-3 players.. 1. Jamshed 2. Shehzad 3. Kamran 4. Umar Akmal 5. Malik (c) 6. Shafiq 7. Hammad Azam 8. Wahab 9. Rahat Ali 10. Ajmal 11. Raza Hasan.

  • on March 31, 2013, 16:43 GMT

Its good to select these players but please choose the right eleven...Nasir Jamshed, Ahmed Shehzad, Kamran Akmal, Asad Shafiq, Misbah ul Haq, Umer Akmal, Mohammad Hafeez, Shahid Afridi, Saeed Ajmal, Junaid khan and Mohmmad Irfan

  • on March 31, 2013, 16:40 GMT

Why is Kamran there? I ggo for Zulqarnain

  • on March 31, 2013, 16:39 GMT

Razzaq should not have been ignored...this is poor from pcb...they have included asad ali, anwer ali and yasir arafat..thats all crap

  • Sinhaya on March 31, 2013, 16:38 GMT

I adore Younis Khan. Such a humble guy. No doubt the greatest batsman when it came to tackling spin bowling. His contribution to Pakistani batting is immeasurable. If any batsman needs expert advise on tackling spin bowling, Younis Khan is the instant solution.

  • on March 31, 2013, 16:36 GMT

so once again Pakistan left Abdul Razzaq .. and Kamran Akmal is selected again , so is Wahab Riaz , both of them are absolutely shambolic selections ! Anwar Ali should be given a chance since he is a genuine seamer of the ball and has a good domestic record to show for

  • wnwn on March 31, 2013, 16:33 GMT

I just hope this is the last we see of Younis Khan in ODI cricket. A great test batsman but a very average ODI one.

  • Real_Champs on March 31, 2013, 16:33 GMT

well is there any other keeper in this squad except kamran,, can any one guid me droping Yunus is a good descion .. and I think Hamaz Azam should be part of playing 11.. also include Asad Shafique and Umar Akmal,,, and I hope this time Umar does not dissappoint us he is a batsmen of 75-100 runs not of 30-50 same is the case of ASAD SHAFIQUE

  • Sports4Youth on March 31, 2013, 16:32 GMT

Good news is that YOUNIS KHAN has been left out of the probables list.

But the bad news is that KAMRAN AKMAL & MOHAMMED RIZWAN are the Wicket Keepers shown in the list. I hope KAMRAN is left out and only RIZWAN is selected, otherwise his presence in the squad will ensure his selection in the final eleven. I hope this does not happen. If Pakistan are to do well in the Champions Trophy then it is very important that PCB does not repeat the Kamran mistake otherwise his keeping can cost them many games like it did in the World cup in India, especially the game against New Zealand.

I was hoping for the selection of SARFRAZ AHMED.
