Rajesh Chauhan suffers cardiac arrest

Rajesh Chauhan, the former India offspinner, has been hospitalised after he suffered a cardiac arrest on Monday. Chauhan underwent surgery in Bhilai, Chhattisgarh, where he is based, and is currently reported to be stable.

Chauhan suffered the heart attack at his home in Bhilai on Monday evening and was rushed to the Bhilai Steel Plant hospital. Following medical advice, he was shifted to Apollo BSR hospital, where he was operated upon.

Chauhan was a contemporary of Anil Kumble and Venkatapathy Raju in the 1990s and played 21 Tests and 35 ODIs for India between 1993 and 1998, taking 47 and 29 wickets in the two formats. His domestic career stretched from 1988 to 2001 and after retirement, he was also a part of the now-defunct Indian Cricket League, working as an assistant coach for Mumbai Champs. Chauhan is perhaps most remembered for his last-over six off Saqlain Mushtaq in Karachi in 1997 that took India to a four-wicket win.
