England's batting collapsed for the second time in this match as India cruised to a comprehensive 293-run victory with a day to spare in the first Under-19 Test at Banglalore. Manoj Tewari led the line for India, cracking an unbeaten 50 in their second innings and then taking 5 for 33.
Resuming on 51 for 1, a lead of 273, India pressed ahead with some urgency, adding 149 runs in a little over 22 overs in the morning session. Mayank Tehlan made 58 in 53 balls, including 10 fours, and Tewari continued the assault with fifty off 48 balls. The declaration left England with 423 to win and more than five sessions to bat.
England started solidly, but the introduction of Avinash Yadav into the attack put the skids under the innings as he grabbed three quick wickets to reduce them to 24 for 3. There was no way back.
Ben Harmison, Steve's brother, made a defiant 33, but his dismissal triggered another collapse and opened the way for Tewari too grab five of the last six wickets with his legspin. Mitchell Stokes swatted a 17-ball 33 but it was only delaying the inevitable. England had been bowled out twice inside 106 overs.
