MS Dhoni, the India captain, has said Virender Sehwag has the ability to repeat his feat of a double-century in a one-day international. Sehwag, who is standing in for Dhoni during the ongoing one-day series against West Indies, broke the record for the highest score in an ODI on December 8, hitting 219 in Indore. Dhoni said he always knew Sehwag was capable of going past 200 in a one-dayer.

"I had always believed that on his day, Sehwag has the ability to score 200 because apart from the big shots, he also uses the bowlers' pace against them and plays calculative innings," Dhoni told ANI. "It was a pleasure to watch him batting. Given his talent, he can do it again. So, hopefully, it will be done by him again."

Suresh Raina, who shared a 140-run partnership with Sehwag in Indore, said Sehwag was singing songs by famous Indian singer Kishore Kumar during his knock. "He was playing very well with no tension," Raina said at a youth summit in Chennai, where India will play the fifth and final ODI against West Indies on December 11. "That day, he was singing some Kishore Kumar songs. He was not feeling any kind of tension."

@kiwirocker - Whether you like it or not India are the world ODI champs. 5-0 against England and 4-1 against Windies. We were also NO1 in tests a few months back. Yes we accept we played badly in ENgland - this was more to poor planning, scheduling, tiredness, injuries. In future tours to England should be done with careful planning. Yes we are tigers at home and flat track bullies - BUT two teams meet on equal GROUND. WHY CANT ENGLAND, AUSTRALIA win on OUR TRACKS. We win some on yours - otherwise you are suggesting that all our games are played at home only. FTP programme and ICC does not allow that. ALSO India won the first T20 championship in SA, were the second best team in ODI 2003 in SA. SACHIN was the best batsman that time in SA 2003.

Definetly this is a strategy by Dhoni. If SHEWAG fires then India are well on their way. The platform he builds could help out Sachin, Laxman, Dravid to some big scores. Its not only him but Gambhir as well. Gambhir will be trying to emulate SHewag. This will be good for India. Coming to our bowling - it is the weak link. If we score big then we are in with a chance as our bowlers will have something to work on.

I am always surprised by one thing ... can anyone clarify? When we talk about achievements by Indian batsmen in India, we tend to say "So what? its on a flat deck." And when its a performance by Indian bowlers (spinners, in particular) in India, we think "So what? its a turning track." Can anyone tell me how the same pitch can be both flat as well as turning?? If its flat, it cannot turn. If its turning, it cannot be called flat ... !!

So, lets give up this self deprecatory attitude and give credit to Indian players who perform. Congratulations Viru ... for the 219 ... it was an amazing innings .... one of the best ever !!! Congrats !

SEHWAG got 219 WOW,but the best innings in ODI are VIV richards getting 189* KAPIL DEV 175*,i shall not count GIBS 175 because he was not their at the end VIV and KAPIL played under immense pressure when OPPOSITION was on top,SEHWAG had full luxury of fresh wicket and home conditions,VIV and KAPIL played without HELMETS on GRASSY and FAVORABLE conditions for Bowlers, that too when in both cases top order failed miserably,PITY that BBC could not cover KAPIL's 175* as that would be a lesson for youngsters to never give up and think +ve.VIV held the FORT with last man HOLDING and played a wonderful knock,of the TOP 10 ODI scores 8 have come in ASIA on BELTERS,not seeming conditions or bouncy wickets,SEHWAG got better of SACHIN but with T20 coming, you will find these records are in threat,IND surely is a BATTING POWERHOUSE.YA SACHIN got iot against a better SAF attack and at 37 yrs of age.I would have been happy had sehwag got it IN AUS against AUS at MCG or PERTH.lets hope he does well.
