"Mr Cricket = efficiency, excellence, adaptability, modesty, passion, team man, Aussie + singer of Southern Cross. Well Played."
Damien Fleming, the former Australia fast bowler
"Mike's career was all the more remarkable because he was forced to wait until he was 30 and had scored over 10,000 first-class runs before he had the opportunity to wear the baggy green. If anyone ever earned the right to play for Australia it was Mike Hussey, and given the chance he made the most of it. Now he goes out on top, leaving the game on his own terms."
Australia captain Michael Clarke
"Huss, all the best pal! You deserve a strong send off at the SCG. Finish with a win!"
Jason Gillespie, the former Australia bowler
"Congrats Michael Hussey, an outstanding career, a true winner that worked as hard as anyone I've had the pleasure to play with or coach."
Tom Moody, the former Australia allrounder
"Was shocked when Huss told me of his decision. He will retire a champion."
Australia coach Mickey Arthur
"Privileged to have played with Huss back in 2005. Changed Durham as a club! Professional, determined and a huge run-scorer. PS: a nightmare to play against."
England bowler Graham Onions
"I can't believe Mike Hussey has retired from International cricket. A seriously tough competitor with an amazing record. Congratulations."
Former England allrounder Paul Collingwood

The only reason why this guy may not be an all time great is because of the lack of longevity factor! Terrific work-ethic, a man for crisis, tough as nails and a true gentleman from an era in Australian Cricket (when it was not really popular for that) Hussey is one of my favorite players of all time! Talk about going out on top! This is another big loss for Australian Cricket!
Thanks Michael Hussey. You are a truly great player. What a test average. I am sorry that you never played under Steve Waugh in a test team. At least you managed a few games with Warne, McGrath, Gilchrist etc. I shall never forget that you were a part of that incredible win against England in Adelaide in 2006 -and there were many other terrific achievements from you in the sport. With you leaving "on top" - this will add to the memory of your wonderful record. It is a pity that you could not or did not play for Australia before 2005. Again, thanks for being a really wonderful player, and a great human being. I loved the way you have been called "Mr Cricket".
A true champion who put up hard yards at domestic levels. 10 K plus first class runs and then wearing the baggy green shows the solid foundation of Aussie domestic structure and the quality in the ranks. A man with grit and determination who did well in all the three formats. Adieu Mr Cricket- Cricket will miss your whole hearted commitment, tenacity and the old school gentleman approach. A coaching assignment for Team India give it a thought.
Posted by meeyan on (December 31, 2012, 23:41 GMT)adios, Mr. Cricket. You will be remembered.
Posted byDear Bangladeshi fans. Let's be clear of 1 thing, pull your head out of your arses. Your team is NO WHERE near even a county team from England, let alone competing with the likes of Pakistan or any other test team for that matter. You have been battered and battered and battered again for the past 13 years, while we hear the word "Improvement" all the time. Apart from 1 (ONE!!!!!!) match in 1999 WC, what do you have to show against Pakistan? Yes Pakistan is not safe for touring, but that cannot be a surprise factor for BCB - AFTER they had made a commitment. I want to see 1 team, any team in the world, being half as good as Pakistan, while not being able to play on homesoil! ECB may be the father figure of cricket and BCCI maybe the financial power house, but it's Pakistan cricket which is entertaining millions of cricket fans across the globe.
Posted byI just can't imagine cricket with Mike Hussey. He was the sole reason i would watch cricket...Gonna really miss his superb cover drives and pull shots....There is a lesson to be learnt for every young cricketer from HUssey which is to never give up...The kind of work ethic the guy has and the phenomenal team spirit can't be matched...You are a legend Mike and you deserve a good rest for all your service not only to Australia but to the the game of cricket. Can't find a better human being in this world as well which is why he's my idol...Very sad indeed to see him go :(
Posted byMike hussey the crisis man for australlia. aussie cricket will miss you a lot
Posted by nirmalzz on (December 31, 2012, 6:17 GMT)I am a hardcore Indian cricket fan, but I m saluting Aussie cricketers' retirement thinking.. They choose to retire, when they r on top and making runs/taking wickets.. Taylor, Waugh brothers, Mcgrath, Warne, Hayden, Gilchrist, Ponting and now HUSSEY.. GREAT..
Posted by matchfixerpkn on (December 31, 2012, 5:53 GMT)unlucky to born at wrong time ... if he is 21 now...may be captaining australia and may be after 15 year in list of another greatest player with some records in his own name which are unbreakable ..
Posted byGood Bye Mr.Cricket.. You are a great ambassador of this game in all formats..Cant forget ur cheer ups and smiling face on field..Respect
Posted byYes, the complete package. Shocking announcement, but he came into the team on others' terms and should be able to leave on his own terms. With Australia, there was always the feeling 'there is still Hussey' - as if he was a hurdle that would need to be crossed before any team could think of bowling Australia out.
Posted byas sad i am to see him go, i am also quite happy that he does go. Sydney and T20 semi final will always haunt Pakistanis. fantastic batter. could have played from 20 in any other test nation.
Posted bythere is no words for this greatest batsmen ever.... in my opinion he is the best cricketer ever i seen.... i love Mr.Cricket... and God bless him.... and best wishes to him....
Posted byi will rate mr. cricket as the most resolute and stubborn at wicket batsman alongside kallis of my generation.cricketing world is surely going to miss one of the greatest batsmen of all times.
Posted by deathstar01 on (December 30, 2012, 6:27 GMT)As long as hussey is not out there was hope. I guess his century against pakistan was the best of the bests. totally irreplaceable.
Posted byA true champion of the game ,sadly will be miss his Mr Cricket style,I think now it might make England things a bit easier win the Ashes ! Now we have two true champions gone in a space of one day (the passing of legend of cricket Mr Tony Greig) .
Posted byMr. Cricket - perfect name for Huss.
Posted by Jimk007 on (December 29, 2012, 23:30 GMT)Saeed Ajmal must be a relieved man!
Posted byA twinge of sadness mixed with the thought that there is now a *lot* of weight on Clarke's shoulders for the Ashes. Only he and Hussey know what it is like to beat England.
Posted by Nadeem1976 on (December 29, 2012, 21:27 GMT)strange that he is extremely fit and retiring. i don't like this idea of Mr.Cricket retiring at all. Cricket will miss you and we are sad.
Posted by Jay.Raj on (December 29, 2012, 18:05 GMT)For once I have to like IPL since I will see my role model of cricket play in that. You showed me what is the true meaning of dedication. Have no words to praise you and thank you. Love from a Canadian fan
Posted by xylo on (December 29, 2012, 18:01 GMT)I think Clarke summed up Hussey's importance in the team when he said after a match about what was going through in his mind during a tough chase - Nothing to worry when Hussey is at the crease.
Posted by StraightHit on (December 29, 2012, 17:51 GMT)Truly top class player!. No one could get on top Aus team until he was back in the dressing room. Still had good 2/3 years of top level cricket left in him. The Aus team will miss his fighting spirit.
Posted by punter-gilly-haydos-mcgrath-warne on (December 29, 2012, 17:16 GMT)When I saw the news that Huss is retiring I was devastated truly devastated. After a summer that Ponting retired and now I Hussey I am thinking of not following Australian cricket anymore. Almost in tears. :-((((
Posted by Mr.pPp on (December 29, 2012, 17:13 GMT)what i never understood is why he didn't get a chance to represent his country at least 5-7 years back. probably the most consistent batsman in all three formats.
Posted by saro_cric on (December 29, 2012, 16:23 GMT)He is a true legend! He has extraordinary skill and temperament..good luck Mike!!!
Posted byA true cricket legend. Never seen a player retires at his best form.Big loss to Aus.
Posted by torsha on (December 29, 2012, 14:47 GMT)I'm shocked. Hope to see you in IPL though.
Posted by:/ thats too sad for me,,,, AUS batting will nothing without PONTING & HUSSEY ,,,, TRUE LEGENDS,,,,, salute u,,,,,,,,
Posted byThose are some very special words from clarke....I hope Huss gets a great 100 in sydney...He deserves a wonderful send off...He's a legend...
Posted byA class player. Had he came to the international arena at 25 yrs of age he would have had around 45 centuries or more by this time in tests.V sad that I can't c him play again in test
