The recent successes of Pakistan's men's and women's team has earned them monetary rewards from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). The men's team won the ODI and T20 series in the West Indies, while the women had success in the qualifiers for the 2014 Women's World Twenty20.

Each member of the men's team has been given Rs. 200,000 (USD $2000), while the members of the women's team were each given Rs.100,000 (USD $1000.) Misbah-ul-Haq, captain of the men's team, along with Umar Akmal, Zulfiqar Babar and Shahid Afridi were given an additional Rs. 400,000 (USD $4000) for their outstanding performances.

Najam Sethi, the caretaker PCB chairman, was buoyed by their success: "The performances of both our men's and women's teams merited a reward. The tenacity shown by the boys under Misbah-ul-Haq and Mohammad Hafeez in the West Indies was quite remarkable.

"The women's team too has maintained an upwardly mobile trajectory, and their achievement of finishing the ICC Qualifiers for the World T20 championship on top of their event is indeed commendable. The PCB management is positive that the cash rewards and recognition shall inspire both teams to keep it up and notch greater accomplishments."

Following a disappointing Champions Trophy campaign in which they failed to win a single game, Pakistan bounced back strongly in the West Indies, winning the ODI and T20 series by 3-1 and 2-0 respectively. Misbah led the team from the front and was the top scorer in the ODI series with 260 runs at 65. Akmal, who was making his return to the ODI squad, played some valuable knocks and was solid behind the stumps.

Babar, the left-arm spinner, had a dream debut against West Indies in the opening T20 International, picking up three key wickets and striking a six to pull off a thrilling victory. Afridi, who was also making a return in the ODI side, had instant impact by securing a win in the opening ODI with 7 for 12 and 76 off 55 balls, but remained below par for the rest of the tour.

Pakistan women's side had a successful tour in England, thumping England Academy, winning a series against Ireland, and then drew the series against England. They also qualified for the 2014 ICC World Twenty20 when they beat Ireland by nine wickets and went on to share the ICC Women's World Twenty20 Qualifier trophy with Sri Lanka after rain abandoned their match.

Justice has not been done ! We should pay money to our cricketers based on their PERFORMANCES , not if they win against a weak team . If I were the Chairman of PCB , I would love a defeat BUT a good fight , rather than playing bad cricket and winning . Terrible i suppose . But , Zulfiqar Babar really should some potential in his bowling and batting both , he should be backed up for the upcoming tournaments , specially WORLD CUP !

Pathetic they only did what they are supposed to do. Rewards are justified if the team wins or reaches final of a World Tournemnt otherwise its just wasting money

  • Chaudry_Cricket on August 8, 2013, 11:17 GMT

WOW just WOW !!!!!! Pay them fully when they embarras us in South Africa and them be the first team to get eliminated but we did not see anybodys pay docked. But then we beat a team ranked lower than us and played some ugly cricket there. But guess what the Pcb gives them a pay rise. You've really set some high standards. Now arrogant cricketers like Hafeez will never lose their ego. I seriously cant see anything improving till after 2015 when we get a first round exit and superstars like Farhat and Hafeez are dropped for good.

But the women cricketers derserve this after their fantastic performances abroad. I belive they had a 12 game winning streak. Amazing performances.

I am unable to understand why they got bonus as they are highly paid professionals and they don't get any salary cuts for losing so why to pay them on success instead pcb could spend that money on underdeveloped regions!!!

  • Khan.Bil on August 7, 2013, 20:39 GMT

PCB should be paying a lot more since their pen pushers or admins make lot more money. It is still sad to see comparatively Pakistani players still make much less than India or Australia.

Afridi didn't get more money than Misbah,Umar Akmal,Misbah and Afridi got the same amount of money(4000$).

  • Desihungama on August 7, 2013, 20:00 GMT

I am actually more impressed with women's team success. They did not lose a single match after beating England. Their confidence grew tremendously after that. But why not equal rewards for both men and women? I never understood why our society function in this manner where men are more equal to women?

  • Sussexx on August 7, 2013, 19:12 GMT

Asia cricket. .. Afridi didn't get the whole 4000 $ but it was shared between umar misbah and babar... if pcb will distribute that much money to the players then they could've produced their PPL, use your head @asiacricket lol

atleast PCB rewarded these players on merit.somehow Afridi shows he isstill the best He is the Backbone of Pak tem.BUT I am wondering PCB shows again pathetic selection including Farhat in XI/If Farhat has a place in ZIMB tour then why Razzaq ha been dropped again...???????NO JUSTICE

Some how, Afridi's presence helps Pakistan to win games. And, if you look at the pattern, they days Afridi has contributed with the ball or bat, Pakistan's win had been assured.

@Aizikhan Afridi also won man of the match for 2nd T20i so yes if Umar Akmal and Zulfiqar Babar got extra bonus then Afridi deserves it too.

  • Aizikhan on August 7, 2013, 15:59 GMT

Great step by PCB. and @AsiaCricket. yes you are right in case of Misbah but Afridi set a record of most wickets in a match by any pakistani. He is at Second place international in most wickets in a match after Chaminda Vaas. He was Leading Wicket taker in the series. He won first match Solely. He complete Milestone of 400 sixes in this series. He helped wining 5th one day with one six and one four after dismissal of Misbah. so he deserves this kind of reward.

  • Kak-mal_Khan on August 7, 2013, 15:46 GMT

I think Mohammad Irfan and Junaid Khan continued to impress, they along with Misbah and Umar Akmal spearheaded the side, and I would still be placing Hafeez ahead of Afridi, despite them both playing irresponsibly at critical stages. Very silly and ridiculous additional rewards there, ONLY Misbah should get if anyone deserves.

  • asiacricket1234 on August 7, 2013, 15:25 GMT

Hang on there What did Afridi do??? He had only one decent match in a year and he is getting payed just as mush as Misbah? If he gets $4000 then Misbah should get 5 times more then that

  • on August 7, 2013, 14:46 GMT

Great work done by PCB. This will help players to boost up their performances.
