Welegedara ruled out of Test series

Sri Lanka fast bowler Chanaka Welegedara has been ruled out of the ongoing three-Test series against Pakistan because of a torn shoulder muscle. Dilhara Fernando is likely to replace him in the squad for the second Test at the SSC, starting on June 30.

Welegedara missed the first Test in Galle with a stiff shoulder and right-arm seamer Nuwan Pradeep played instead.

"Welegedara has a muscle tear in his shoulder. We are waiting for an expert to give us a feedback [on] whether he needs surgery or not," Sri Lanka captain Mahela Jayawardene said, after his team beat Pakistan by 209 runs in four days in Galle. "It's very unfortunate for Chanaka as he was bowling really well. He will be out of this series."

Before the series against Pakistan began, Jayawardene had expressed confidence in Welegedara, saying he had the experience to be the leader of the bowling attack.

Welegedara had also suffered a groin injury earlier this year which had ruled him out of the second Test against England at P Sara Oval.

i agree with 'johnathonjosephs', pradeep doesn't swing or seam the ball, if he did he would be great, maybe a few more deliveries on the stumps would have been good. good stuff kula and herath, bowling looks better. i think we should bring in eranga, he's not as accurate, but he gets movement. fingers crossed

Nuwan Pradeep should bowl at 155 instead of 140kph if he is going to threaten batsmen since his deliveries do nothing in the air or off the pitch. He needs to be coached by someone on how to do this since he has not played a lot of hardball cricket. His action could be a problem when it comes to moving the ball but unless he can make the ball talk, he is not going to get most test class batsmen out.

Nuwan Pradeep bowls 140 consistently but the problem is none of those balls do anything. They are just straight balls all the time. Why do we need someone going 140 every ball when most balls just go straight? Would rather see someone like Lakmal or Thilan Thushara come back into the side. Kulasekera needs to stay for another 3-4 years though. Sri Lanka simply does not have enough good seamers at the moment
