Sourav Ganguly has been fined 30% of his match fee after being found guilty of breaching the ICC's Code of Conduct during the second Test against South Africa at Kolkata. The incident which forced Jeff Crowe, the match referee, to take action against Ganguly was a bat-pad appeal against Jacques Kallis, which Daryl Harper turned down. Replays showed that Kallis was lucky to survive.
Announcing the verdict, Crowe said that Ganguly had breached Level 1.3 of the code which relates to "showing dissent at an umpire's decision by action or verbal abuse". "As the Indian captain with greater responsibilities, the behavior is unacceptable in maintaining the standards of international cricket."
