Asia Cup, 2010

Wisden's review of Pakistan v Bangladesh, Asia Cup 2010

Sa'adi Thawfeeq
15-Apr-2011
At Dambulla, June 21, 2010 (day/night). Pakistan won by 139 runs. ‡Pakistan 385-7 (50 overs) (Imran Farhat 66, Shahzaib Hasan 50, Umar Akmal 50, Shahid Afridi 124; Shafiul Islam 3-95); Bangladesh 246-5 (50 overs) (Tamim Iqbal 34, Imrul Kayes 66, Junaid Siddique 97). Pakistan 5pts. MoM: Shahid Afridi. One-day international debuts: Jahurul Islam (Bangladesh), Asad Shafiq (Pakistan).
Shahid Afridi's second violent century of the tournament - this one came off only 53 balls, and he hit 17 fours and four sixes in all - set up Pakistan's highest total in one-day internationals, beating 371-4 against Sri Lanka in Nairobi in October 1996, in the match in which Afridi blasted the fastest one-day international hundred of all (37 balls) in his maiden innings. Afridi passed Sanath Jayasuriya (270) as the leading one-day six-hitter during his onslaught. It was predictably far too much for Bangladesh, who slipped to their third heavy defeat of the tournament despite a stand of 160 between Imrul Kayes and Junaid Siddique, who just missed his first one-day hundred. This was Pakistan's eighth one-day international in 2010, but their first victory.
