At R. Premadasa Stadium, Colombo, July 23, 2004 (day/night). Sri Lanka won by ten wickets.
Sri Lanka 6 pts. Toss: Bangladesh.
Faced with snowballing media criticism for a 30-match run without a century, Jayasuriya burst
back to something like his devastating best against a demoralised Bangladesh. Sri Lanka were in
control throughout, and on a placid batting track Bangladesh's 190 was far from enough.
Mohammad Ashraful anchored their innings, eking out 66 from 120 balls, but they never fully
recovered from 31 for four. Gunawardene and Jayasuriya - who pummelled his first fifty from 38
balls and finished with 107 from 101 - powered home with all ten wickets and more than 16
overs in hand.
Man of the Match: S. T. Jayasuriya.
