A commemorative cricket match between Asia and a Rest of the World XI
will be played on April 8 at the Bangabandhu National Stadium in
Dhaka, Bangladesh. This was disclosed by ICC President Jagmohan
Dalmiya during a meeting with Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina,
at her office on Monday. He informed the Prime Minister that the
United Nations is expected to be involved with the commemorative week
April 2-9, and during this week this international cricket match will
be held in Dhaka as a day-night fixture. The UN flag will be hoisted
in Dhaka on the occasion. Mr Dalmiya said that he had requested UNICEF
to involve itself with the carnival, with an objective of ensuring
children's right to play and globalising the game. He praised the
Prime Minister for her keen interest and support, especially during
the very successful "Mini World Cup" ICC Knockout of 1998, which took
place less than a month after a devastating flood in the nation.
