AUSTRALIA v CANADA

At Birmingham, June 16

15-Apr-1980
At Birmingham, June 16. Australia won by seven wickets after their captain, Hughes, had put in Canada to bat. The match began in thrilling fashion when Sealy, after paying respect to Hogg's first two deliveries, pulled the next three to the boundary and leg-glanced the sixth for his fourth 4. However, it was too good to last, even if Hogg's second and final over cost another 10 runs. Hurst allowed no nonsense and claimed five wickets for 21 runs; Dymock, Cosier and Porter each met with success at small cost and Australia needed only 106 to win.
They helped themselves to 12 off the first over from Valentine, who later removed Darling with a shooter and then splendidly caught the impressive Hilditch at square leg. Border shaped well until Henry beat him with a yorker, and Hughes and Yallop batted confidently to the end. Hurst received the Man of the Match award.
