Australia v New Zealand

At Sydney, January 17 (day/night)

15-Apr-2003
At Sydney, January 17 (day/night). New Zealand won by 23 runs. New Zealand 4 pts. Toss: New Zealand. International debuts: R. J. Campbell; B. B. McCullum.
Cairns captained New Zealand for the first time after Fleming was injured in the nets, but Harris was their star. Australia again folded under pressure, losing their last six for 38 in nine overs. Three fell to Harris, who took the pace off the ball and prevented the lower order running it around. He also claimed two catches, including an astonishing effort at point to remove Steve Waugh. Earlier, Harris had been largely responsible for building a defendable total. Along with Cairns and McMillan, he injected some life after a funereal start, which produced only 38 runs in the first 18 overs. Warne suffered as the tempo rose: his nine overs cost 65 runs, the most he had conceded in his 170 one-day internationals. Australia were fined one over for a slow over-rate.
Man of the Match: C. Z. Harris.
