Australia v South Africa 2008-09

Wisden's review of Australia v South Africa, Second Twenty20 International, 2008-09

Daniel Brettig
15-Apr-2009
At Brisbane, January 13, 2009 (floodlit). Australia won by six wickets. Toss: South Africa. Twenty20 international debuts: H. M. Amla, W. D. Parnell
Australia completed a 2-0 sweep of the Twenty20 series after some measured hitting by White and Mike Hussey reeled in South Africa's mediocre total. That they had made as much as 157 was largely thanks to Duminy, who faced 41 balls and again demonstrated the precious ability to play exactly as the situation required. None of his team-mates followed suit, however, leaving the Australians in good spirits at the break. Botha succeeded in becalming Warner with his off-breaks, before Steyn beat an impatient heave to splay the stumps, but Ponting kept things under control. Wayne Parnell, a left-handed all-rounder from Port Elizabeth making his senior debut, was flashed in the eye by a laser light as he attempted to catch Hussey, prompting a stiff rebuke about such crowd behaviour from Cricket Australia.
Man of the Match: M. E. K. Hussey
