†AUSTRALIA v WEST INDIES 1981-82

At Melbourne, January 10

15-Apr-1983
At Melbourne, January 10. West Indies won by five wickets, a brilliant innings by Dujon bringing them a victory which was less comfortable than the final margin suggests. Batting was never easy on another poor Melbourne pitch and Australia reached 146 after winning the toss only because Chappell played a determined innings for two hours, twenty minutes. West Indies, too, made a bad start, and with Richards able to make little of the slow, uneven pitch and the outstanding bowling of Malone, a last-minute replacement for the injured Alderman, it was left to Dujon to overcome the difficulties. He found attacking strokes for almost every ball (he faced 80) and a solid partner in Lloyd, whose calming influence was as always invaluable to West Indies. The match was watched by 78,142 spectators, a world record for a one-day match.
Man of the Match: P. J. Dujon. Attendance: 78,142.
