†AUSTRALIA v WEST INDIES 1983-84

At Melbourne, January 8

15-Apr-1985
At Melbourne, January 8. West Indies won by 27 runs. After Lloyd had won the toss he and Richards asserted their superiority with a third-wicket stand of 103 in 76 minutes. In his first appearance in an international in Australia, Baptiste made a valuable 28 not out. In a mishap, which was to keep him out of the remainder of the series and prevent his going to the West Indies with the Australian team in mid-February, Yallop, the most successful batsman of the season, twisted his left knee badly, damaging the medial ligament. He batted at No. 10 with a runner, but by then West Indies had the game well in hand. Border carried on from his impressive Test efforts with an unbeaten 84 in 163 minutes from 109 balls, but Garner, Marshall and Daniel kept the others under lock and key.
Man of the Match: I. V. A. Richards. Attendance: 72,610.
