Bangladesh v West Indies, 2012-13

Wisden's review of the fifth ODI, Bangladesh v West Indies, 2012-13

At Mirpur, December 8, 2012 (day/night). Bangladesh won by two wickets. Toss: Bangladesh.
West Indies' comeback from 0-2 had led most to predict they would pinch the series but, to general delight in the stands, it was Bangladesh who prevailed as their middle order batted with more assurance when it mattered.
Put in, West Indies struggled at first: Gayle's poor run continued when he cut Shafiul Islam (a late inclusion after Mashrafe bin Mortaza withdrew with a thigh strain) straight to backward point, which made it 17 for 3 in the eighth over. But Bravo and Pollard rescued them with a stand of 132: Pollard smote eight sixes in all, twice hitting Elias Sunny for two in a row, before he eventually missed one more big hit against another slow left-armer, Mominul Haque. But the rest struggled against the spinners, before Shafiul returned to wrap things up.
Bangladesh also made a poor start, losing both openers in the third over, but Mushfiqur Rahim and Mahmudullah settled nerves with a stand of 91 in 12.4 overs. Both eventually fell to Narine, but Nasir Hossain took over, sharing important partnerships with Mominul and Sohag Gazi. At 214 for 6 in the 43rd over - just four to win - it looked all over, but Roach removed Gazi and Abdur Razzak with successive legal deliveries.
In the next over from Russell, with one run now required, Nasir cut towards the fence and the batsmen raced off to celebrate - only the ball never reached the rope. By the time it was returned, the batsmen had souvenired the stumps and were being congratulated by their team-mates. After a delay, which included some optimistic West Indian appeals for a run-out, the umpires decided no run had actually been completed, so the scores were still level. Nasir duly cut the next delivery away - and this time it did make it to the boundary, to seal Bangladesh's 3-2 series win.
Man of the Match: Mahmudullah. Man of the Series: Mushfiqur Rahim.
