Alcindo Holder, a promising Barbados player, was in a serious condition in a Barbados hospital after being stabbed just below his heart in a domestic dispute.
Holder, who has been tipped for international honours, was due to fly to England this week to play for Westhoughton in the Bolton League. He is now in the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Barbados, where it is expected he will be for the next month while he recovers.
Tony Sharples, secretary of Westhoughton Cricket Club, told the Bolton News: "All we know is that he's in a serious condition in hospital and is lucky to be alive. We are very shocked. We wish Alcindo a speedy recovery."
A player from Holder's former club Rochdale, one of Westhoughton's club rivals, spoke to Holder on the phone on Monday. The player, Dominic Ayres, said: "He was on the critical list for 48 hours. Although very weak, he said he felt slightly better."
