BCB's disciplinary committee has ordered a rematch between Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club and Brothers Union on November 18. The decision came as they found no clear direction in the Dhaka Premier League's by-laws after Dhanmondi Club protested the participation of the suspended Suhrawadi Shuvo during the match between the two sides on November 9.
Shuvo was reportedly suspended for misbehaviour during Brothers Union's November 7 match against Abahani. But match referee Obaydul Haque, who had summoned Shuvo for a hearing after the game, failed to inform the player of the suspension at the ground or afterwards.
The Dhanmondi Club officials got wind of this suspension during their match in BKSP-2 on November 9, and after they lost by six wickets, lodged a protest at the Cricket Committee of Dhaka Metropolis (CCDM). They passed on the issue to the BCB's disciplinary committee who, other than ordering the re-match, banned the match referee for two years.
The committee also fined Brothers Union Tk 1 lakh (approx. $1,250) for fielding a suspended player, and also upheld the earlier decision to keep Shuvo suspended for one match. Shuvo will now miss the re-match, which is to be held in Mirpur.
The winner of this re-match will clinch a berth in the Dhaka Premier League's second phase as one of six teams. They will join Prime Doleshwar Sporting Club, Kalabagan Cricket Academy, Gazi Tank Cricketers, Prime Bank Cricket Club and Mohammedan Sporting Club.
