Mashonaland continued their absolute dominance of the Logan Cup by defeating Midlands by seven wickets at Harare Sports Club. Waddington Mwayenga took four wickets to help shoot out Midlands for 136, with Vusi Sibanda (53) offering the only resistance. Brendan Taylor then cracked 107 to almost single-handedly cancel out the deficit, while Andy Blignaut added 67 to lift Mashonaland to a lead of 182 runs. Midlands made a better fist of their second innings, with three players reaching 40, but nobody could go on and Justice Chibhabha took five wickets to reduce them to 286 all out. The defending champions lost three wickets in pursuit of victory, but the result - like the title - was hardly in doubt.
Batsmen from both sides filled their boots as Matabeleland and Manicaland played out a draw at Mutare Sports Club. Terrence Duffin set the tone for runscoring with a topscore of 117 in Matabeleland's first innings as they went on to make 472. Manicaland responded with a mountainous 595, Stuart Matsikenyeri posting 114. The pitch may have been a batting paradise, but Tinotenda Mawoyo and Sean Williams were left frustrated as they each ran out of team-mates just short of their centuries: Mawoyo was stranded on 94 not out and Williams on 95 not out. And the match wasn't just about the batsmen. Gerald Penford took 5 for 86 to check Matebeleland's progress in the second innings, while Blessing Mahwire and Christopher Mpofu each took four wickets in an innings.
