England v Australia 1884

This was the first of three matches arranged to be played between the Australians and the full strength of England

15-Apr-1885
This was the first of three matches arranged to be played between the Australians and the full strength of England. Owing to unfavourable weather the wicket was unfit for cricket on the Thursday, and play was consequently confined to the Friday and Saturday. The result was a draw in favour of the Australians, England being 93 runs on with a wicket to fall in their second innings.
Shrewsbury and Lucas played admirable cricket in both innings. Grace exhibited great skill and judgement in scoring his 31, and O'Brien made runs at a tijme they were badly wanted. Grace was one hour and a quarter scoring his 31, and Lucas was at the wickets two hours for his 24. The Australians hit with more vigour and confidence than their opponents, and McDonnell, Murdoch and Midwinter, contributed capital innings.
