†ENGLAND v WEST INDIES 1989-90

At Gwalior, October 27

15-Apr-1991
At Gwalior, October 27. West Indies won by 26 runs. Toss: West Indies. England had no-one to equal the brilliance of Haynes and Marshall. Chasing the highest total of the tournament to date - built on Haynes's fifteenth hundred in one-day internationals - they began solidly but were undone by Marshall's decisive spell of three wickets for 14 runs in four overs. Having in his first spell had Larkins caught at cover in the eighteenth over, Marshall returned to remove Gooch and Lamb with consecutive balls (give or take an interruption for drinks) and then Smith, the last of the experienced strokemakers. Haynes, who batted throughout the West Indian innings, faced 164 balls and hit two sixes and twelve fours in his unbeaten 138.
Man of the Match: D. L. Haynes.
