England women go 2-0 down to India

India have secured victory in the second one-day international between India and England following dramatic storms in Hyderabad yesterday which restricted the match to 23 overs a side.

England posted a total of 71-8 from the allocated overs after Clare Connor lost the toss, and saw her young England team put into bat. England, again, lost early wickets as the emerging seamer Jhulan Goswami got considerable movement, taking three wickets for a miserly eight runs from her five-over spell.

India, who scored slowly as they were pegged back by a solid opening bowling spell from England's pace bowler Lucy Pearson, took until the 14th over to reach the required run rate, but lost only one wicket in the chase, with the captain, A. Chopra, top scoring on 37*.

Caroline Atkins and Jane Cassar raised faint hopes when they formed a partnership of 23 for the fifth wicket, and accelerated the run-rate, but Jain stumped the attacking Atkins and Cassar followed in the next over, run out.

England Coach John Harmer said: "Our game has been loose in the first couple of matches, with our usually strong bowling attack conceding too many extras and our batters lacking the positivity to play shots. It has been disappointing and it will be tough without our top batters, but I still expect us to play better as the tour goes on."
