As in the Under-19 World Cup semi-final last year, when England were felled for just 58, India proved too strong in the final of the tri-series in Kuala Lumpur with England's batting again flopping for just 90. India swept to the trophy by 167 runs after a solid batting effort had left a target of 258.
Piyush Chawla, who has been outstanding throughout the tournament with his legspin, proved too much for England and ended with 4 for 21. Only three batsmen reached double figures, Billy Godleman top-scoring with 24, and the last eight wickets fell for 39 in 16 overs.
India's innings was build around 76 from Tanmay Srivastava, who faced 105 balls and struck five fours and a six. No one else went past 37 but the middle order scored at a decent rate. A late flurry came from Sumit Sharma, who added 46 for the eighth wicket with Mahesh.
England had managed early wickets, reducing India to 47 for 3 in the eighth over, but Srivastava added 71 with Bodapati Sumanth which built a solid platform for the remaining batsman. An injury to Steven Finn meant he could only bowl 2.3 overs, which hindered England's attempts to build on their early successes.
Reaching the finals was always a given for England - with Malaysia being the other team in both the tri-series - but to leave without one of the trophies will be a major disappointment and the team was outclassed at vital times by firstly Sri Lanka and latterly by India.
