INDIA v AUSTRALIA 1986-87

At New Delhi, September 26, 27, 28, 29, 30

15-Apr-1988
At New Delhi, September 26, 27, 28, 29, 30. Drawn. Heavy, unseasonal rain in the capital precluded the possibility of any play on the first two days, and poor covers had let the wicket get so damp that a start was finally possible only after tea on the fourth day. After Border had won the toss, Boon added to his run of big scores against India and the Australian wicket-keeper, Zoehrer, hit a maiden half-century before the token declaration. Vengsarkar, who had missed the First Test because of back trouble, made use of the time available to become the third Indian batsman to score 5,000 Test runs. The Australians had offered to play an alternative Test, provided this one was abandoned, but the Indian Board was a reluctant party to the negotiations.
Close of play: First, second, third days, No play; Fourth day, Australia 58-1 (D. C. Boon 37*, D. M. Jones 3*).
