India v Australia 2007-08

A match report of India v Australia 2007-08

Anand Vasu
15-Apr-2008
At Nagpur, October 14, 2007. Australia won by 18 runs. Toss: Australia.
For only the second time in the series India took an old-fashioned approach to one-day cricket, conserving wickets at the top of the order while chasing a big target, but it wasn't quite enough to avoid defeat, as Australia took the series 4-1. Symonds shrugged off the abuse he had received in the previous game, and brought up his sixth one-day century - he might have had at least two more in this series - from only 82 balls as Australia ran up 317 after winning another important toss. Tendulkar and Ganguly began strongly, putting on 140 in 25 overs to keep India within striking distance of the asking-rate. But when Tendulkar fell, a period of strangulation followed, with Yuvraj Singh and the out-of-sorts Dravid finding it difficult to score. And each time India looked to break free, Hogg struck: he ended up with four wickets.
Man of the Match: A. Symonds.
