INDIA v ENGLAND 1992-93

At Gwalior, March 5

15-Apr-1994
At Gwalior, March 5. India won by four wickets. Toss: India.
India squared the series 3-3 thanks to an inspired innings from Azharuddin, who took his side to victory with eight balls to spare. Just as happened 24 hours earlier, after England had been inserted on a dry, bare pitch, Smith set about the bowling with gusto. This time he was overshadowed by a thrilling unbeaten century by Hick, whose 105 came in 109 balls. But even these innings rapidly slipped from memory once Azharuddin started to impose his genius on the proceedings. The Indian captain came to the wicket at 99 for two, with 167 required in 24 overs. He ripped the England attack to pieces - his 95 not out came from just 63 balls. Thus England's tour of India ended in their sixth defeat in nine international matches, and all their plans in tatters.
Man of the Match: M. Azharuddin.
Man of the Series: N. S. Sidhu.
