India v New Zealand, 1999-2000

At Delhi, November 17

15-Apr-2001
At Delhi, November 17. India won by seven wickets. Toss: New Zealand.
India sealed the series 3-2, winning with six overs in hand, but it was a low-key finale. Both New Zealand openers were out in controversial circumstances, Astle lbw to a ball that seemed to be going down the leg side, Spearman caught when Kumaran was overstepping. Again, Twose and Cairns shored up the innings, but it totalled a disappointing 179. Gandhi, in his first one-day international, and Ganguly opened with 117 in reply, and Ganguly went on to take his aggregate for the series to 301. He outshone all other batsmen in the match in scoring 86, with 12 fours and a six. Though Vettori dismissed him and Tendulkar in four balls, Dravid saw India to a comfortable victory. Both umpires were the sons of Test umpires, M. Y. Gupte and H. P. Sharma.
