India v Pakistan

At Toronto, September 13

15-Apr-1999
At Toronto, September 13. India won by 20 runs. Toss: Pakistan. International debut: Harvinder Singh.
Heavy overnight dew left the pitch so damp that the start was delayed for half an hour. Conditions encouraged seam and swing, though bowlers found control so difficult that they delivered 43 wides. When they did bowl on target, the ball repeatedly found the edge of uncertain bats or beat them altogether. India's critical partnership was 91 off 108 balls between Azharuddin and Jadeja, who hit four sixes. Saqlain Mushtaq's clever off-spin caused a late collapse of six for nine, and he also figured with the bat, adding 64 with Salim Malik after Pakistan declined to 107 for seven. But once he ran himself out, the possibility of an unlikely win disappeared.
Man of the Match: A. Jadeja.
